Some people might disagree, but I think the PM function is kind of worthless if there are no emails for the messages sent by default.
Usually I really dislike 'on by default' new things, but in this case the whole system is kind of worthless, as nearly noone I know even uses their LJ inbox. So if I message someone who doesn't read news and don't check their inbox, they will never see my message.
It should be turned on by default at least for those who get their comments sent by email anyway.
It is really, really strange what kind of 'turned on by default' (Snap! (argh!!!)) and 'not turned on by default' (PM) politics LJ/6A has...

I wants all the credit my precious. Besides, I wanted first comment and first edit, searching for the other thread (I'd commented there and just did so again) would've taken more time than I had, so speed was important.
Meh, I honestly care not-that suggestion got the [bad username] thing improved and got us a form of editing that's pretty cool, so we're good. Many people with very similar ideas, and coffeechica and janinedog persuading all the recalcitrant objectors that it was a good plan. They deserve the real credit, especially Janine, I couldn't even read the code she did.
I sleep now. I'll have a full inbox in the morning won't I? Oops...
