Lewis Nixon has been shaggy before, but this is just getting ridiculous.
"Dick," he hisses from the top of the foxhole. Winters just lies there, and shivers. Nixon sighs and reaches down to try and bat at his head. "Dick."
Winters grunts fitfully.
Nixon can just about reach him. He strains forward, claws digging into the frozen mud for purchase. Another swipe grazes Winters' helmet with no more payoff than a dull thunk. "Swear to God--" Nixon mutters, at which point he loses his balances entirely and pitches forward, flailing, right into Winters' lap.
Winters jerks awake, grabbing blindly for the cat scrabbling over his legs and chest. "Dick! It's me!" Nixon shouts. Winters' eyes focus; he stares for a moment, then leans back against the dirt wall and says, "Oh."
Nixon smooths down his ruffled fur, trying to recover dignity he never quite cared about before he became a cat. "I've been doing some walking out on the line," he begins.
"Are you sure that's wise?" Winters cuts in.
Nixon shrugs. "That's never really been my strong suit. Anyway, nobody short of Shifty Powers could hit me. I mean..." He arches his back and lifts his tail; he's rail-thin, hardly enough to shoot. "Look at me."
Winters is frowning, the lines around his mouth deep. "Yeah."
Nixon smirks. He can still do that, even now: it's such a natural reaction for him, it had to carry over. "Yeah. So, listen, this is probably something you'd better see." He pauses, and cranes his neck. The edge of the foxhole is feet and feet above him. Nixon gives Winters a pleading look. "I really don't want to jump that."
Winters' hands encompass his whole torso, and as he's lifted, it's the first time Nix has felt warm all week.

NO, I LOVE YOU!!! This is so incredibly wonderful I have no words. I want to quote every single line at you and say YES YES! This is so how cats are and how Nix would be as a cat. And then the last line, nnnggghh.

I commented on your daemon fic over on AO3 and I'm so pleased to find you here. Love, love this. Also, Nix as a cat? ROFL. Dick would so need to keep him warm and make sure he doesn't freeze that cat butt of his.
