When I checked my bank account this morning, I had a little more than $105 in checking. HAPPY AUGUST!! I cannot wait to start getting paid, especially for the damn work I've already done, but also not least because there's a bunch of stuff I just want.
For instance, Doc Martens likes to torment me, like with these black-and-white brogue Mary Janes. I could totally justify them as new-job shoes if I... got a new job.
I think I found Karolis Strautniekas because someone posted his eerie, gorgeous, German Expressionism-looking "The Nightmare" on Tumblr and I loved the atmosphere. Turns out I love the atmosphere on all his works! His store seems to be mostly sold-out limited-run prints, but the one I keep eyeing is an open-edition monument to Laika that I just really, really like and want in my living room.
Every time I saw this Freddie's of Pinewood top in an actual store, it was too small and my heart broke. The UK website asks for, like, $17 upfront in shipping, which makes it onerous to buy direct. Thankfully, I have just discovered Miss L-Fire, which is based in Los Angeles. HURRAH. Not only do they have that top I love (cream! rust!), but they sell amazing shoes, as well as this dress that's both on sale and in my size, GDI.
Operation: Dress to Make Peggy Carter Proud is so trying. I want so much!! that I cannot have!!
Other happenings:
I finally figured out my Andrews Sisters-style group name for my Big Band Witches: The Hurly-Burly Girls. I'm super pleased with it, and frankly, so are they. (P.S. Would anyone be up for, like, back-and-forthing about worldbuilding and drabble prompts? I've stripped back a lot about the story, but I really want to throw ideas around with people.)
I tried the acrylics that came with my drafting desk, and they were super fun. (I've been doing accomplishing much more this week with my art supplies than just about anything else.) New discovery, for trying to figure out what the hell to do technique-wise: Will Kemp Art School. Good grief, he's nerdy, and sort of a poor man's Paul Bettany, but he's darling and I genuinely enjoy that.
Recipes I gotta try: Eat Within Your Means, which is so much more fun voice-wise than the name suggests. And it's all vegan, for those who are looking for such things. The blogger is just a delight!
I'm rewatching Chuck from the beginning; very good decision, it holds up super well. (Awesome!) I also decided to watch S1 of Leverage, rather than subject myself to the series actually ending. (I'm two from the end of S5.) Holy cats, are the dynamics different in ways I don't remember! It's got all the elements there, though. The reason I'm bringing it up is that I was super convinced they shared an actor in common, but nope, John Fleck and Richard Cox just look exactly alike and each play creepy scheming types well.
Anyone else need an Imzy invite? I've still got a bunch, and apparently I get a free t-shirt if I get two more of you to sign up.
I signed out of Tumblr last night and honestly, it feels so damn good.
