The exterminator always hums and sings when he comes around. I love him.

I just found out that Mutsu apples, the most perfect of all apples, are also called Crispins here in New York. I've been walking by huge crates of Crispins at the bodega near my train station every day; I thought they looked the same, but I didn't want my heart to get broken by expecting a Mutsu and getting something weird and mealy, like that Cortland I tried the other day. I'm. so. happy.

It's a completely picture-perfect fall day right now: mid-50s, bright and sunny, hardly a cloud in the sky. I am still in my PJs on my couch, but I have an excuse: the building turned off its water between 9 and 10, and I got involved in writing a blog post for
magpieandwhale while I was waiting. I'm pleased with it, though; it's the thing I'm going to come back to when I'm somewhere bad and don't know what makes me happy anymore. How to overthink things: A list is my guidebook for the weekends and evening hours.

I have some other links to clear out!
  • Vanity Fair got the story behind Ermahgerd Girl, and it's actually some great reading and reporting.
  • The New York Times profiled people who dance with their dogs.
  • Monty Python released 15 minutes of unseen animations from Holy Grail.
  • Jelani Cobb's "Tarantino Unchained" is the most wonderful, eyes-open breakdown of Django Unchained. The final lines are so, so powerful. Just truly excellent criticism.
  • Pacific Standard profiled Nazi ghosthunters. It's weird and uncomfortable and fascinating.
  • The Los Angeles Review of Books wrote up the fundamental philosophical war between Charles Schultz of Peanuts and Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes.
  • Ever wanted to learn how to sing two notes at once? Open Culture has you covered.

What're you reading these days? How's it all going? Anybody got any good Bucky/Sharon floating around? That's the rarepair of my heart at the moment and I think between that, the "Steve takes swing lessons" story and the Bucky reunion fic that's sort of haphazardly coming together, I've got a lot of fannish needs right now. <3
