Anyway, here's "Wonderwall": Old fandom feelings

Sep 19, 2015 10:35

You can get dumb ideas from Tumblr. One reblog of stills of Dean from the SPN pilot and I'm remembering how amazing the fandom could be, and how you'd get reams and reams of incredible icons in the days after an episode aired, and even the genfic communities were hopping with good stories, and how amazing it was to be newly independent in Chicago, in the interior where this show and this fandom lived, in 2008, when I first got into it, and how the atmosphere the show could have been was so infectious and inspiring, and the novels I wrote trying to fix that damn canon, and. Now I'm telling myself that a rewatch is not a good idea, even if going through all my saved icons (I have a lot) is making me remember all these incredible moments I loved from the first three, sometimes four seasons, how I used to watch "All Hell Breaks Loose" (both parts) for catharsis on bad days, how many feelings I had about that universe.

I'm not even thinking about how bored I got with Heaven and Hell, how desperately overexposed Castiel became and how fascinating and terrifying he was at the beginning; how I have no idea whatsoever what's going on with this lurching, shambling series now, how I couldn't even be bothered to finish S6, even though I was something like two episodes from the finale. Alas, old fandoms. I think it's the time of year; fall was always such a good time of year for SPN.

I'm so glad it's Saturday. This week was a very full week, and somehow I kept managing to not sleep enough and not eat enough, and I was really done by the end of it. I've got all these hopes for today, all this storytelling I want to do, for me, but not feeling sure about where any of it should go. Some other good links:
  • This is the most basset hound story I've maybe ever seen. Look at these pictures. Just look at them. Oh my gosh.

  • There's a post going around (I guess?) about why the code in AO3 is worrisome (DW version); it's... certainly enough to make me think I should start just downloading PDFs of my AO3 stuff, just... in case? Or cross-post to DW again, like we used to? (My renewal notice for my paid DW account just came too, and I have to hope DW is going to get better. All our big hopes from 2009 need change and resuscitation.)

I've got so many tabs to clean out. There's so much more in there, oh my god. Anyway, hi. ♥
