If anyone remembers this, in 2007, I wrote
my first SPN Big Bang, which was a ghost story set in my hometown, which has a canonical mention in S1 (hooray!), in part because I was tired of people writing about Athens, Ohio, as a college "with spires rising up from the flatness of the cornfields." (Trololololo, Appalachia no.) It centered around an impossibly cool mural that's on campus, which I wrote up a little
here and which features in
slodwick's
great cover art. All of this is to say that I just saw an article saying that
the mural has been restored, which is great, first of all, but it also includes archive photos of how drastically the mural has changed over the years, which I did not know! Very cool.
Relatedly, I recently opened a story about
forest restoration, and couldn't remember for a minute why it sounded so familiar, and why I felt like I already knew a lot about it... Then I remembered that the first SPN fic I ever read was "Red," the
huge take on Little Red Riding Hood about a time Dean ran away from his family and took up reforesting. An interesting fandom throwback.
