Note to self: Edward Hopper icons

Nov 15, 2014 09:14

Aw, everything is beautiful right now. The thing I'm most surprised by in New York, I think, is that when the light cooperates, this city gets the most amazing light. When there's sun, I frequently look out the windows of our office and feel like I'm in an Edward Hopper painting. I'm feeling that right now with my own apartment, even if I don't seem to have the technical skills to really capture it on camera. (Note to self! Actual DSLR classes at some point, since -- never mind about my Medill photojournalism class, in which all the loaner cameras were Nikons but the teacher only knew Canons, so she just... didn't bother teaching us about how to use our cameras.)

Here's an attempt, with some help from Photoshop!

There's still so much to unpack and toss and do (ohmygod, couches come with so much cardboard and plastic), but it's going to be so sunny and nice today (and less so tomorrow, I understand) that I'm wondering if I should just... skip out for the day and do something nice.

Of course, I am also coming off a very intensive week which I'm so happy to have slept off. Monday night was dinner (in Washington Heights!) with the glorious
oliviacirce and
annaoj, the latter of whom I haven't gotten to see since... 2006, maybe? It was great! Tuesday night was ramen and a very quiet bar with
e_clare. Then Wednesday was a pretty wonderful "ladies' night" at work, where I drank entirely too much wine (whoops?) and made friends with some people outside the editorial team (they were awesome!) and then had an adventure getting home from Chinatown, since my train was having weirdo schedule things. Thursday was our office housewarming party, which I solved by mostly hanging out with one of our remote copy editors, whom I was meeting in person for the first time, and his awesome fannish wife, who brought me (!!!) a Winter Soldier Funko Pop figurine and a little plush Cap that needed a new home. They've got it, trust me. Friday I woke up... still kind of drunk, which was a delight, and everyone in the office was pretty tamped down and hungover. It was a huge relief to just come home to a quiet place and fall asleep until I woke up.

It's still early, so my neighbor who enjoys floor-shaking bass is not yet up, it looks like. I don't think this quiet will last, but I'm rolling around in it while I can.

(I also woke up and found there was a new chapter posted of "This, You Protect." Two updates in one week! The universe is being damn good to me.)
