Maybe I'll order in some sushi tonight. Live large, Esther!

I did a link-mongering post at
magpieandwhale! Some of the stories cover radical education in Matamoros, Mexico; portraits of pre-Taliban Afghanistan; access to live shows at the Globe (yes, that one); a breakfast recipe I need to adapt to be egg-free (stupid allergies), because it just sounds that good; diversity in comedy, and, in living color, the story of how I met Martha Raddatz (moderator of the 2012 VP debate) and lost my phone for a bit.

Some other links that were more DW-appropriate:

I found this in my tracked post tag!
megwrites collected some comments about what to look for when buying your first fountain pen.

Entry Denied was put together by an immigration reform group. Would your ancestors have been let into the United States under today's immigration laws?

cimorene is looking for vid recs for outsiders.

Super simple and clear explanation of photography terms, which is much better than anything I ever got in my photojournalism class. (By the way, one of my plans for this weekend? Taking my new Frankennikon out for a real spin, not just testing it out by shooting endless variations on mugs and office supplies.)

sansets has a list of WWII combat film recs that I need to spend some time with. I was also not aware of this, that the most effective antiwar films show no combat footage at all. I am super intrigued by this -- like, possibly capstone-level intrigued.

I've said this before, but
thefjp is a really great resource for tracking the media world. This post, about Glenn Greenwald's new mass media venture with the founder of eBay, is really interesting in light of a conversation we had in my Intro to Cybersecurity class last week, about what we would choose to report and when. Many of us would hold off on breaking a story that would put troops in danger, for instance, but were less sure about, say, a story that would indirectly alert a key Al Qaeda figure that U.S. troops were looking for him in a certain town. It's not as clear a decision as one would think, and yet it still takes journalism students reminding that we're not here to serve as an arm of our own government. A long, interesting debate that didn't solve much but raised a lot of questions.
