Please let me not have totally borked my sleep schedule for the week.

Got my beat assignment for the quarter: Veterans and Military Families, here we go! This Urban Issues class seems like it'll be a good one -- the teacher is kind of a delight, and he sent me this ebook about the California Zephyr when I put in my beat requests and included "the Amtrak/trains beat." (I may also get to do additional stories about the internet and how people use it and how we're affected by privacy policies and other things that interest me. Very excited about that!)

I am only worried about one thing: the one girl who I cannot stand chose her seat in the newsroom facing mine. (We're all at rows of desks with phones; it's one step below cubicles, though somehow really nice.) I keep trying to remind myself that on the very first day I met her, this girl said, flat out, "I have an anxious personality." It's really, really hard, though, when she constantly interrupts you to talk about herself, when she gets competitive (and nasty!) about grades or accomplishments, when she butts into conversations she's not a part of, when she offers unsolicited (and unhelpful) advice. Keeping my cool is going to be an adventure. I'm trying so hard to be kind and supportive with her, but she is just a difficulty I'm going to have to cope with like a big girl and I'm irritated about that.

Anyway. Then I meant to come home and clean so maybe I can finally host a 1000 Blank White Cards party, except I... fell asleep, because I woke up at 5:30 for no good reason this morning. Oops?

I have a ton of links to share. Oh man, roll up your sleeves, guys.

Two that came my way within hours of each other: Un-memorizing the "Silence is sexy" date script and “Consent Is Sexy” Is Useful But Also Kind Of Sketchy. Could be useful for sexytimes-writing folks, in addition to life in general!

'Just a Theory': 7 Misused Science Words, for when you get too frustrated with anti-science bullshit to go on.

20 Reasons Aleksandar Hemon Will Never Leave Chicago -- I've seen this guy talk several times, and he's pretty great. Also, #20, yes yes yes. (Relatedly, I am nearly done reading Never a City So Real by Alex Kotlowitz, and alkjdshfljkh it's so good, I am still sad I missed the event described in that link.)

The Internet is great for many reasons, but one of them is that you can have entire websites devoted to boot lacing. \o/

Where to start as a journalist? Take a look at the Peabody Awards --
thefjp is an amazing, amazing resource/site/Tumblr, and I would thoroughly recommend that everyone follow it, but then, I'm a little biased. (See also: Twitter diplomacy, When it's illegal for teenagers to read the news and, most of all, Every Fucking Website, which I found thanks to this place and which gladdens my soul.)

The Battle of New Orleans -- A frankly dispiriting look at the New Orleans Times-Picayune, a top-quality daily newspaper with a rich history of excellent investigative work and how it's been dismantled.

Why iO Founder Charna Halpern Is Gambling $7 Million On Comedy In Chicago -- If you've visited me and we haven't made it to iO, that's a damn shame and we should fix it. Interesting look at one of the biggest (and, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and consistently good) theaters in the Chicago improv scene. (See also, a thing that's making me laugh, though I have yet to listen to it: Radiolab did a short on TJ & Dave, which is an astounding show that has nothing to do with my ISC boys. P.S. I am furious that I can't make this show because of class!)

Note to self: read The Cyclist Conspiracy by Svetislav Basara. Other note to self: figure out if I want to read a 480K series that, as far as I can tell, somehow blends The Chronicles of Narnia with the RAF.

Like Shakespeare? And icons?
angevin has some cool linocut print icons of Shakespeare covers from Penguin.

Really, really extensive bra-fitting techniques

That... should be enough for now.
