Because you still have spots.

The thing I wanted to say on Tumblr (very late) last night about my experience watching Skyfall is that I went into it thinking I had been spoiled for a plot twist, which, although in some ways I'm glad it didn't happen (yay that character sticking around!), it would have made for an awesome movie.

Somewhere in browsing through the tags for The Hour (before 2.01 had aired, because spoilers!!), I thought I saw a tweet from Oona Chaplin claiming that people should watch the new season because it had McNulty from The Wire, Romola Garai and "the baddie from Skyfall." I scrolled past so quickly, because I was annoyed at the possible spoiler, so I didn't get a clear look -- maybe it wasn't from Oona Chaplin? Anyway! I spent the whole week thinking Ben Whishaw (Q) was going to be the big bad at the end of Skyfall. When I got there and he finally appeared, bragging about how much damage he could do in his jammies from his laptop, there was a lot of ellipsis-ing in my head. I kept waiting for Silva to reveal that he and Q were working together, and that Q was his boss!

It didn't happen, although Whishaw's Q is delightful and there was not nearly enough of him. Also, to see him and Rory Kinnear hanging out and not being kings is jarring and excellent (and yes, I have read the reincarnation fic).

The movie was, in general, super fun! I mean, the utter absurdity of the explosions and chases and set pieces had my jaw on the floor with delight. There were, of course, things I wish the movie hadn't done, but no one has seen fit to give me millions of dollars to make another version, so, alas.
