As one does when one is in a honeymoon stage with an actor, I have been poking around at other things Joe Armstrong has done (aside from Robin Hood, which is at this point well documented). This morning I watched
an episode of Hustle in which he plays one character's old flame/true love when we were teenagers. He's a widower with a small kid, and this means he does things like open doors and reveal that
he's wearing a pink tutu, and he's incredibly charming until the very end, when the writers make him... really OOC for half a moment in order to justify a thing for the character who's in love with him. He's also dressed almost entirely in v-neck t-shirts, which makes me incredibly happy on a personal level.
I think it's really confirmed for me that
schweedie is right and that his natural accent is
what he uses for Allan in Robin Hood. It's also made me realize that he is most attractive to me when he's doing
Shakespeare in a Geordie accent. I keep coming back to this: he's a goofy-looking dude, and he does not inspire "I WOULD CLIMB YOU LIKE A TREE" feelings like Tom Hiddleston does. But I'm fascinated watching him, and I'm genuinely distressed that there isn't ever going to be a Kate and Harry Percy miniseries where he and Michelle Dockery have screaming, kicking, biting fights and then fall all over each other while plotting rebellions and insulting their allies.
It's funny to me, on a separate note, how very much I've become a Hollow Crown fangirl, and it isn't even at this point for the guy I wanted to watch it for in the first place. (Don't get me wrong: Hiddleston is fucking brilliant, and I think part of the reason I'm avoiding rewatching his scenes, especially his storyline with the equally brilliant Jeremy Irons as his ailing father, is that
I can't handle it right now. People in love with occasionally poor social skills:
much better.)
I've got three-ish hours left at work right now, and a ton of personal projects I should be working on, but I'm also really feeling meme-ish, especially drabble meme-ish, because I actually haven't posted any fic this calendar year, and that's weird for me to think about. So:Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you one sentence from that story.
Fandoms are... let's call it The Hollow Crown, other Shakespeare plays I've talked about (Macbeth, Cymbeline, Much Ado are all good bets), Innogen and the Hungry Half, Fringe, Thor, The Avengers, Robin Hood and RPF of pretty much all of the above. If there's something else you're interested in, I can try to give it a shot, but a back-up prompt might be awesome, since sometimes you can still love an old fandom but the juice is just no longer there.
(This will be open for a while, so no worries if you tag in a few hours after it's posted!)
