As a reminder, "we are so screwed" is generally my apocalyptic weather tag.

First things first: everyone in the Midwestern/Mid-Atlantic U.S. who experienced that storm last night, damn. I hope you're okay. I'm at my parents' place in Columbus, and it was a doozy, though thankfully we've got power. It did flicker and go out for short periods last night. I've seen very few storms in my life like that, though: 80 mph winds and driving rain and green skies are nothing to sneeze at. (Gus and I observe the back porch, which I swept clean of leaves and branches today.) Stay safe today if you can, guys -- it's supposed to be another scorcher, with temperatures in the trip digits, though I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. Last night after the storm, the pavement was steaming hours after the rain had stopped.

This visit home has been okay, though that's largely because when I arrived, Mom was very alert and talkative and sounding like herself, but she's not been able to keep it up. We've watched some movies here, including Les Triplets de Belleville (which I haven't seen since college; odd, slow film, more than I'd remembered, but enjoyable!), an episode of Midsomer Murders with Orlando Bloom as a ne'er-do-well young burglar, and the Helen Mirren Tempest, which... was odd, and not in a good way. Mostly it reminded me 1) how gorgeous Djimon Honsou is, and 2) how deeply, deeply uncomfortable this play makes me. I can't really root for anybody, while at the same time the villains feel toothless, and I'm always aggravated by how much Prospera/ro telegraphs and announces in terms of feelings or plans. Ben Whishaw as Ariel had a wonderful face, though, and I'm excited to see him as Richard II. (Is that tomorrow, by the way? I can't remember when The Hollow Crown starts! eta Tonight!)

I've also been playing with my dad's Kindle, which is from about November 2010 (I don't know what model that makes it). It's black and white, and the screen does this intensely aggravating flashing thing when you turn a page over. Also, my dad has never connected it to the wireless because his wireless password is so long and aggravating to enter. I might ask him if I can steal it for a bit, to see if I end up liking it more. I put a fic from AO3 on there, to see what reading it is really like, but so far I'm not terrifically impressed.

My flight's out at 5:25 or something. I have no idea if Chicago got the kinds of storms we were promised, but I had left all my windows open in my apartment, sooo... we'll have to see, I guess.

I was mid-air when the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act was announced. I started crying a little in my seat when I read it on my phone. In the time since, I've been reading many profiles of John Roberts, the Dubya-appointed Chief Justice. (I'm sure many other people have also been inundated with fundraising emails from various political parties and activist organizations.) Not that this is a shock to anyone, but it's obviously going to be an interesting ride.

Right. Gotta go answer some emails. Happy Saturday, all. <3
