Ah damn. I finally got my check from the Fifth Element (the freelance editing job I did, on a very tight turnaround, in November), despite the check being sent to my old address, and am finally committing to nabbing one of
these. Now Vivien of Holloway sends out
a newsletter of their own and includes a 10% off discount code. I've been coveting
one of these for quite a while, and am wondering if this is the time to make the leap. Black is out, as I'm
pretty set on that front, but I find the Arabesque compelling, and the green and the purple ones intrigue me. Do you guys have any strong feelings? Crowdsourcing my wardrobe: hurrah!
The snowpocalypse has sort of come to Chicago at last. Mostly right now it's cold, and will probably stay that way, along with more and stronger wind. Luckily I had just enough random ingredients at home to make
this for dinner, but I really should have hit up the grocery store last weekend, when it was 50 and lovely. Ah well. I think I made the right choice last night by staying in and watching Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and sobbing grossly through the whole thing. Shadow is like. The ur-golden retriever. The counterpart to Thor. And to see this movie about how much pets love their owners, after having loved a dog that much (and lost her), is a very different experience than I was expecting. (On the other hand, my narrative failsafes are so hardwired into me: found family and going home, oh my god.)
I would also like to announce that I have managed a passable version of "St. Louis Blues" on the ukulele, to my great delight, and that I can fingerpick "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" without looking at the music. Boom! Maybe there will be video. Who knows?
I'm at that point in
Innogen and the Hungry Half where I need to start making spreadsheets to make the next two-thirds of the story work. I'm excited! I've never really done the spreadsheet thing before. New adventures in a brave new world.
