April 9th is Mini-Comics Day! Much like 24-Hour Comics or the 48-Hour Film Festival, the goal is to create, produce and distribute your own mini-comic in the space of a day. I'm intrigued!
The Illustrated Section: A place for getting digital comics and illustrated books. Not necessarily expensive! And definitely intriguing, as far as the possibilities.
Wapsi Square: A webcomic about a group of musicians and museum people in Minneapolis (as far as I can see; I'm only up through 2002 in the archive) who are occasionally visited by Aztec and Mayan deities. It's... weirdly addictive.
Girls With Slingshots: I need to read this one after I'm done with the above.
The Abominable Charles Christopher: I have already eaten this one whole, and am eager as hell for more. Gorgeous art, really interesting interwoven stories.
aschick makes totally bizarro comics, and I kind of love them without having any idea why.
Boxer Hockey: Another strangely compelling, though probably slightly more relatable, comic about, er, nothing at all, so far as I can see.
Axe Cop recounts an episode told by a 5-year-old and illustrated by a 29-year-old. The protagonist has boomerang socks for arms. It's glorious.
Rumors I've Heard About Anna Wintour is also glorious. Especially her power animal.
Picture Book Report: Looks like I found this just as it closed up shop, but the idea is that a bunch of artists pick a book and illustrate it. Awesometoast!
My Life in a Cube: Also seems to have closed up shop, but, these are comics made on and with office supplies. Love it!
Ravenari's Totem/Animal Guide Dictionary: Just what it says on the label. Ravenari makes absolutely gorgeous art (I find myself wanting to use line texture like she does), and also has
a great blog of her own. She's also around at
moonvoice.
Magnolia Photo Booth has some
epic and wonderful plans.
Stop motion is really damn cool:

On a vaguely similar note,
this looks like fun. As does
this! A possible project coming up?
Someone produced a musical about my life. It's called
Shoes. Who's up for a trip to London?
Speaking of fashion,
fashion as social history! Sailor Twain has shared an amazing black & white portrait artist:
Brian Oglesbee, wow.
