Solution to what? Everything.

Today is a day for ultimatums, which I guess makes sense, given that it's the last of the month. I must 1) go to the grocery store, 2) do laundry, 3) finish or nearly finish the WBB and 4) catch up on SPN and Boardwalk Empire or face pain of, well, being hungry and not having any clean socks. Today is also a day for recovering from two straight nights of Halloween parties, one significantly more, uh, rowdy than the other (hello, baby's first hangover), though both were pretty fricking fabulous. While I am rounding up my "mmm, just woke up and am lazing with tea" phase of the morning, before I disconnect and head for my Word docs, link party!

In which we betray our gender - In the artist's own words, "a compulsive response to a recent, entirely unremarkable little dust-up over on Twitter concerning the excruciatingly polite, brief comments of a certain cartoonist concerning the way dudes talk about women cartoonists - and the shitstorm of whiny nonsensical defensive outrage that inevitably followed."

Shakespeare in the original pronunciation - Very cool project! Go UK theater! (That's University of Kansas.)

So you want to get a PhD in the Humanities - I got an A on my paper about death.

Home is 385 Reitz Street - Tour this really gorgeous retro-inspired home in South Africa. God, I want to get myself together and decorate!

Way too expensive... but a pretty great idea.

DRESS WHITES ON A TREE; or, ASkars in Battleship: Set Pictures

In a similar vein, Moomins! This cast, wow. It's hilarious how most of the actors with whom I'm familiar are because they wind up playing villains in the U.S. Peter Stormare? Mads Mikkelsen? AMAZING.

tassoss attended the Rally to Restore Sanity, and her pictures are so, so cool. The more I read about the event, the more I fall deeply in love with Jon Stewart, I'm not going to lie. You, sir, sound like a real mensch. And that Colbert fellow isn't half bad either.

I have not gotten a chance to revisit sharp_teeth for a bit, though there are some prompts that I desperately want filled or to write (Cabaret/House of Leaves, I'm looking at you!).
fulselden answered one of mine, and it is wow. Made Ripe for Death by Eld, King Lear, fabulously creepy, and wonderful wordplay and use of language and form.

By the way,
pandarus has podficced "Jeeves and the Creature of the Night," which is just. So amazing. (My overuse of that word does not diminish its effect!)

If you're on DW -- or even if you're not -- you should consider following
fanart_recs. I have been introduced to some totally wonderful work there, and as someone who would love to know more about fanart and the fanartists out there who take my breath away, this is a very good place to start.

Speaking of more recs, the ever astounding bookelfe is mighty in the ways of book reviews, and her account of Once on a Time by A.A. Milne makes me want to find it right now and lose a day in it.

Documenting surfers with 19th century photography - Really haunting and neat. I sometimes have a hard time connecting with old photographs, in that they're positioned in such a way that they almost don't look real. This has the neat effect of taking people you're used to seeing in very free, relaxed poses and making that old photography much more accessible.

Does size matter? - Okay, I had truly never really properly considered how large Africa is. Guys, it is huge. Go Africa! Speaking of which, I'm learning a lot on
forkedtongues, and this post on ancient African writing systems is really, really neat.

So
yhlee writes original flash fic on occasion. Not only do I have to read these, as the little bits I glimpse are pretty great, but that sounds like a fun idea. Since I'm not doing NaNo this year (first time in ages, and I feel so free!), maybe that's something to consider for the second half of the month. (The first is for cleaning up the WBB. Posting date is November 15, ohmygoodnessgosh!)

Also to do: download
nextian's STBB mix, which looks excellent.

One of the books that I found while I was going through my things in Athens was The KnowHow Book of Spycraft. A lot of strange books were pretty formative for me. This is one. I kind of want an extra copy, perhaps.

Still dreaming of these. However, Best Buy is having a quickie sale on Canon Powershots and accessories. I seem to recall a lot of recommendations for that one, and I'm definitely in the market for a new camera. Anybody have any words of wisdom on that front?
