I'm Still Here...

The Thursday after my fiance's birthday (my last post), we were given a four-day weekend (with Friday & Monday paid) for New Years. My fiance and I spent our four-day New Years weekend with my parents & my maternal grandmother (who was visiting from Arizona). Since my fiance's birthday was December 27th and my mom's birthday was December 29th, we got to exchange belated Christmas gifts and birthday gifts during our visit...we like to "extend" the holiday.

To celebrate my mom's 51st birthday, my folks, my fiance, my grandmother and I met up with some of my parents' friends at small bar no one had been to before. My mom said she wanted to go dancing for her birthday, and this place reportedly offered a variety of music to dance to. We were treated like VIP's since the bouncers were soldiers stationed at NAS-CC, and they knew my folks through a program where local residence come and feed the soldiers on Thanksgiving. Everyone had fun even though the DJ didn't seem to be paying attention to peoples' responses to the music he was playing. He would play a real party-starter, and have just about everyone on the dance floor, then the next song he played left a lot to be desired. He did this off and all throughout the night - but no one really seemed to mind since we had comfy sofas to sit on in between good dancing songs.

Per tradition, we all attended the New Years party at my parents' friend's house. There was karaoke and fireworks. We usually do this every year, but we were forced to skip last year's party because I had to work on New Years...so it was good getting to see everyone and catch up on their lives. My parents' friends live pretty far from town, and with the weather being clear and cold, the fireworks looked fantastic against the starry sky. It was (as it usually is) a fun way to ring in the new year.

My fiance and I drove back home Monday (January 1st) to settle back into the swing of things and prepare for our return to work on Tuesday. It was almost fun coming back to work...with as much free time as we have now, it's almost exhausting trying to figure out what to do next. This week (at work) went by so fast, I'm still having trouble comprehending that THIS is our weekend and we don't have to go back to work until Monday afternoon. OH - we just found out we get Martin Luther King Day off too (paid)...still dunno if it's going to be another four-day weekend, yet - but I guess it really doesn't matter.
