This week's Spotlight Artist is a duo I discovered in my findings through another band I featured here a few weeks ago, The Big Pink. I enjoy them quite a bit, if not for the fact that it sounds like I'm going down a long, dark tunnel.
Spotlight Artist of the Week: Small Black
Second week in a row I have a band based in Brooklyn, NY, comes a duo with arrangements similar to sound parties found in warehouses. Meek voices filter in and out as the percussion takes over, synced over a fuzzy edge that produces a quixotic sound. They don't necessarily have the same flare as other bands such as Memory Tape or another band they've worked with, Washed Out, but they have something that is lastly, sincerity. Their song Despicable Dogs is worth a listen, even if you can't quite make out what is being said, it sounds good.
