Conor Obrest and the Mystic Valley Band, Fleet Foxes

Hey Music Lovers!!!

It's been kinda quiet here, so I hope this week's New Music Tuesday entry lifts your spirits.
The first album is Conor Obrest and the Mystic Valley Band's, Outer South

I have always enjoyed Conor Obrest, most notablely in Bright Eyes, which is his musical vehicle in so many respects. What I like most about his music was his honesty, stripping himself bare and allowing the words to just flow through. Saying that, he was able to do it again with such a large band supporting him. I had most of the songs before through the interwebz, but I couldn't appreciate them until I had them in a certain format, and the structure of this album I think is probably its biggest strength. It took a number of songs that I've heard in one way, setting them in this order and creating a different context.

Nikorette has such a great summer song, breezy and light. A lot of this album has a sense of seasonal pleasures, and it's a solid effort. Believe the hype, it's well deserved.

Choice Tracks: Big Black Nothing, Slowly (Oh So Slowly), and Nikorette

The second album is Fleet Foxes', Mykonos - Single

Okay, I love this band. Like, I think it has reached the level that they are on my top ten favorite acts... of all time. When I saw them last summer, I cried. I hadn't even seem them before or heard of them when I saw them, but it was love at first sight with my ears. hehe. Anyway, I'll stop fangirling over them for a moment to discuss they're new single.

Mykonos was a song off their EP, Sun Giant, that was released in early 2008 and is still one of the highlights of their of work. It's a great song about longing and to see it showcased, paired with a new song, one I heard a few months ago, but now can own "legally", I'm very glad.

Just listen to this band. The harmonies are drop-dead gorgeous. The lyrics however are very dark and sometimes perverse, but the beauty and longing in Robin Pecknold breaks my heart everytime. I love the crap out of this band. Do yourself a favor and give them a listen. Pressured enough? Good.

Choice Tracks: It's only two songs: Mykonos and False Knight on the Road

Okay, kids. Love you all!
