American anti-American Movies
In my opinion this movie would better have been titled "A Land of Cheap Traders" because the key element was to show the destruction that the "western" world has caused on all other cultures. I am not a fan of Tom Cruise however I enjoy the movie roles he choses. Ths film was beautifully made and I'm not suprised it did not receive greater attention for its taboo content.. Some of the best advice ever given in a movie was said between the last Samurai and Tom Cruises character. "I'd rather have a good conversation than read from a book" Or in this case watch a hollywood movie that points a shameful finger at its own culture for a change.
Of course Brad makes this movie easy on the eye, and the story is classic. Fight scenes were not tediously drawn out and gorified, and had originality in choreography and plot. The best line is when Brad says something like "its wrong to send young men to fight an old mans battle" How true of the times.
