Woot! I got my chinese kimono in the mail yesterday ^.^ Although its more reddish than burgandy :P
And surprisingly it fits well enough that I will be able to wear it once its altered.
The bust and hips fit all right, the problem is the torso area is too long!
I am tempted to turn it into a kimono shirt (which I would wear a ton!) and a skirt, which I might wear sometimes but likely with a different shirt. That way at least the shape of the kimono would be kept in tact.
My other option is to cut along the hip seem, add some fabric, and make it a kimono dress with more of a flared skirt, and wear another skirt underneath. My sister likes that idea and while it would be pretty it would not be very kimono-ish :P However it would be easier to walk in and still cool - I suppose it would be more costume like to since what I am going for is not a traditional look but more of a chinese-themed original cosplay outfit.
