Yes! It's that time of year again! We will go to the beach, see the ocean and sunbathe on the sand! Last year was a blast, our biggest meet was around 20 furs in all on the most famous clothing optional beach on the east coast! Sandy Hook's Area Gunnison. Especially fun when one of my friends welcomed furs into his home and had a hot tub for us to use connected to his house! That was a blast! :) He may join us for a meet or two this year..
This year, I'm going to try and see if we can get a hotel with a hot tub in the room for the August meet. This way we can all relax, and furs that are traveling from far away can crash and hang out for an extra day with the furs of NJ! Lots of places to go to and things to do after the beach, and maybe even an after party if everyone is up for it! For furs traveling from other states by plane, train or bus, if you can get to or arrive via train along the NE:Corridor line in Middlesex county, I can pick you up, just let me know ahead of time.
This announcement is for 3 meets.. Some people have asked for one the week before Anthrocon, if there is enough interest for after AC, we can have another one on the 11th of July, or we can have a large gathering and make a weekend out of it since there will be one on the 12th.
Some info about Gunnison: Gunnison Beach is one of several beaches that are part of the Gateway National Recreation Area in northern New Jersey, located on Sandy Hook, a six-mile-long peninsula across from the entrance to New York Harbor. Sandy Hook is known for exceptional beaches, wildlife, and fishing. Gunnison Beach, overlooked by the historic Sandy Hook Lighthouse, has dramatic views of lower Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Nearly two miles of Gunnison Beach is legally recognized as clothing-optional, with official signs and full lifeguard and police protection; it is the largest clothing-optional beach on the Atlantic coast of the US, and draws more than 5,000 visitors per day on most sunny summer weekends.
When: June 27th (Saturday), July 12th (Sunday), August 1st (Saturday)
Time: 2:00pm - till we are done (beach duration, 6pm most likely). You can arrive as early as you'd like, but I will not be there until 2pm. (better parking after 2, and free parking after 4)
Where: Gunnison Beach, (Area G) at Sandy Hook Park in Sandy Hook/Atlantic Highlands, NJ
NJ Garden State Parkway Exit 117, to route 36 South (12miles), to the beach!
(Once you past the Beach Entrance, Gunnison is a good 3-5miles down the road!)
Nudity/Articles of clothing/Sexual activity: Clothing is optional. Sexual activity is not allowed, but they will not kick you off if your -ahem- aroused. So for those expecting yiffy times, this is not the beach meet for you :) There are kids that go to the beach, families.. We actually had a fursuiter there last year, and they were not yelled at, so I guess fursuits are allowed! (note: Recommended that you change on the beach, to walk to the meet spot is difficult in suit)
Meet Spot: Better meet spot directions, demanded! Here you go!
When you arrive on the beach, walk to the life guards on the shoreline, around the center area of the beach. On each side of the beach, you'll see a pair of red flags, between the red flags is a sign that reads, "End of guarded area." Facing the water, we'll be around the area of the flags on the RIGHT side of the beach. With a Furry type flag of our own. It's tall! Bright orange and with a black paw on it! (Thank you Lupine Fox, Soma Cat and Shortwave P. Husky!) pics can be found in the pictures link up at the top! :) It's really hard to miss! :) I do have my cell phone on me that I try to check every 30minutes. Call me.
Necessities: Sandles!! Along the begining of the beach there is usually alot of shells, once you walk out there it is a nicely combed beach, but before that, the shells can be murder.. bring your sandles! Don't yell at me saying I didn't warn you!! Suntan/Sunblock lotion should also be used :) Sketchbooks...
Parking: $10 every day. But this is avoidable, by meeting up with everyone at the carpool spot or waiting till parking is free! When carpooling everyone will be asked to pitch in a dollar or 2. Parking is free before 7am (moring early birds need a parking pass from the ranger station which is the entrance.. so you'll get one.. just have to be sure they give you one...) and after 4pm.. So if you want to wait till 4pm to come to the beach, no worries, come on after 4pm. For those car pooling with me, I get in for free with my seasonal pass.
