Weekend update
My college friend arrived on schedule Saturday (which cleared up nicely after a damp start) and after meeting up with her 28th St. we went for tea in the West Villge, but DUH at 11AM they weren't doing tea service. We had tea and scones, shared Welsh Rarebit after which I took her off to the Lush store back up at 34th St for bath products.
We got out of Lush just in time to ge to the theater. Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen were both on the top of their game and the surprise appearance of Michael T. Weiss was a treat. Our TDF (cheap) tickets were 2 row L. Orchestra--very nice.
Since the play was short we were back on the street by 4 so we headed back downtown to Union Square to play at ABC Carpet (otherwise known as the OMG Store--because pretty much everything in the place evokes that response)
Since we had to meet her bus at Penn Station we headed back to TImes Square for dinner at a Turkish restaurant, Dervish. With giant cocktails and misc lamb dishes time flew and ended up having to grab a cab to catch her bus.
It certainly wasn't the most logistically reasonable day I might have planned, but we had fun and I'd gotten her an unlimited METRO card so we just jumped on and off buses and trains as needed and talked pretty much non-stop except for the play. There was some catching up on life stuff but mostly it was books, music movies---she's not fannish so I think there may have been moments when I was making no sense at all, but we had fun and plan to do it again soon.
