all work and no play make jack a dull boy
so it's been a month, since what you ask? since we last saw one of my co workers.
and no i don't mean anything tragic, wel i mean we don't know what happened.
last week of the semester theres no normal work for us because its finals and they don't need open labs for homework because there is supposed to be none and we have finals as well. so this guy apparently showed up for normal work that last week after being told not to and our guess is he got annoyed. which we figured would be all fine and dandy and that we'd hear from him over break. well we didn't that week of finals, nor that week before christmas when we worked on various odds and ends in preparation for new equipment (more on that later).
well the week before the new semester he still didn't respond to any contact, same with the current situation one week into the new semester. which brings us to the current predicament we are in now.
the current situation is as follows, we have one adult who works full time in there, hes the guy in charge of everything, i honestly don't know his title but hes the head guy. then we have 5 student lab aides (instructional aides if you prefer the official title). right now one is taking winter session at another school and as such isn't available until 8:30 each night when he normally covered every night almost. we have another worker who because of issues i don't know can't be in there at 5 when we need him, and another worker who has asked for less hours to focus on his studies, all in all nothing you can fault anyone for.
that leaves us with myself and the other new guy who got hired with me last semester. or it would if we could find him. every task the last few weeks has taken longer just due to the fact that we are a man short but now that the normal work is resuming we are left truely scrambling as he was hired as a night guy and well we can't even find him for the day.
over the last few weeks we have gone from being concerned about his whereabouts to openly wondering why we haven't hired a new person for the job so we can keep the lab open for all students at the hours we are supposed to. this semester i only have one course i have to attend week in and week out as the rest are online but there will be various tests that i have to attend and not to mention i was counting on not working every free night so i could get homework done. but alas we are left scrambling big time and for now i will be working more each week with a schedule that could change from week to week. all of us at work get along extremely well and we trust one another, that can not be said for the worker in question as he has not been present enough for trust to be established. the only question i have is why haven't we hired someone new?
oh and about the new equipment we have been told about 4 dates in probably 4 weeks for new machines to come the last being friday and we don't have them yet.
