i'm going to pull an office space
so i'm kinda pissed right now because the chicago trader joe's sucks. i really miss working with the people back at the royal oak store because they actually made the job fun, i would actually look forward to going to work in most cases. don't get me wrong, there are some cool people at the store here, but there are even more than make working unpleasent. and they suck with scheduling here. i need the weekend of the 27th off (or at the very least, that saturday and sunday) for our show. that's almost a month from now, and the request sheet is booked solid for that weekend. that doesn't sound unreasonable, except for the fact that only the first 5 people that ask for any given day off actually get that day off. 5 people, out of the like 60 or so people that work there. that's retarded. should i not be able to get two days off work when i ask for it almost an entire month ahead of time?
so now i'm already going to be stuck trying to swap shifts for that weekend. and due to my past experience with this weekend, i've found that it's almost impossible to get anyone to take a weekend shift for you. but i hold the same view as jon, that my band is more important to me than my job. i'll call in again if i have to. fortunately for me, i never had to adopt that attitude at the royal oak store because the management there is actually reasonable. but the only thing that's keeping me from finding a new job in chicago is that i need to save my money for a new guitar (hell yeah). after that, we'll see what happens.
and after today, it has occured to me that precisely what i didn't want to happen is happening. as i was filling out my days i need off for all of our upcoming shows, my boss said to me "you better not be asking for all the weekends off, you're still new here you know". okay, i've been working for the company for a year now...i might be new the store, but i'm not a new employee. regardless, are you implying that you give everyone else senority? is it okay for everyone else to ask for weekends off, but not me, just because i'm "the new guy"? fuck that.
