The cake is done and delivered, baby! The adrenaline is finally starting to go down. The funny thing is that now I have time to relax and get back on my P90x schedule. =)
From
Cakes B still likes my Easter egg cake the best, but I am really proud of the detail work on this one. I tried several new techniques (as always) and made a very put together piece. Excluding practices, The cake came together in 4 days (which includes time away for work, babies, and sleep).
Massive amount of lessons learned on this one:
- Have more than one tip if you have to change colors often.
- Icing bag blowouts are not the end of the world, so long as the red icing doesn't hit the white cake.
- If you know a piece has to dry, let it dry before you touch it and make the entire thing collapse (setting the crown took two tries, in case you couldn't tell).
- Noncompetitors appreciate beauty more than they notice flaws.
- Stick to the plan only if you have the time.
- Perfect Practice makes Perfect.
- 30 people won't eat 4 cakes (volumetrically).
- Non tv show cakes do NOT need "one more" surprise wow factor.
