separation without anxiety

No one likes having to walk away from their child each morning, I'm sure. But there's a special kind of pain that comes with knowing that it's just part of their routine.

When daddy walks away from the toddler, even if she's in my arms, she cries. She is inconsolable until I find just the right shiny object for her to refocus on. When I walk away, if she's in daddy's arms, she waves and says "bye."

I make sure to help pick her up almost every afternoon, but she just gives me a hug and then reaches for daddy. I know people say that all kiddos transition back and forth between parents, but this is pretty much our permanent state.

Being the 50s dad sucks. While someone has to bring home the bacon, I just can't see how so many men have made this sacrifice. She even ignores us when she plays on toy telephones because when mommy IS around, she's on conference calls and "can't play now."

She is nearly 1.5 years old and still thinks "Mommy" means "food."

If you would like to donate to the "one less estranged child" or the "one mother needs love" fund, please send $100k annually to me@mybank.

Someone please think of the mommy... the mommy who missed her child (and wants a raise as long as we're dreaming).

mental, baby
