Cutting for tmi, drug and blood content
Wednesday morning, some extra splooshing in the morning potty caused us some concern. We called our ob/gyn's office for advice and given the mucus trail, were told to check in at L&D.
After learning that contractions every 3 min don't count as labor if your cervix is still at 1 cm, we were sent home. No really. We ate, we shopped (read: walked), I even tried a round of belly dance (prenatal version, of course). Nothing moved.
So we returned for the scheduled induction that night. Contractions were still good, but no real progress so they started the cervidil to soften up said reluctant cervix. We slept most the night in the posh L&D room.
Morning brought the pitocin. Still, not much of a big deal. My pain tolerance seemed to be great. Around 9:30 this morning, they ruptured my water and I was finally "in labor" despite having contractions for 27 hours and losing the mucus plug back at the beginning.
Then started the hurty. Without the water, the contractions got steadily more painful. In less than an hour (mind you my contractions were still every 2-3 min) I was at a 4-5 pain level asked for the epidural.
That's the first time anything went like TV. Namely, I ratcheted up to 9-10 before they could get to me. I never screamed, but the sad little whimper was pretty devastating. I tried to leave the bed, demanding, of all things that I be allowed to go home to take care of my dog, because surely he was freaking out about this.
Epi went fine and I OD'd. Numb to my toes, why did they give me the button?, I slept through the next hour of contractions. Then we found that I was half way there, 5+ cm at last. And I pretty much kept sleeping until it was time to push.
I had been trying to fight off the epi by then so I Could push. That probably helped some. But less than 30 min of pushing and they made me stop to wait for my doc. Once she was there, set up, and ready, it took only two rounds (contractions) of pushing to crown and eject Kaylee.
Born at 3:46 pm, she was perfect of course: alert, aware, focused, and even quiet. They had to make her cry to ensure clear lungs, etc.
As I type this, she has been asleep for almost 3 hours straight following some "cluster feeding" which I may be a big fan of. Dad is trying to sleep and I'll be waking everyone up soon for another feeding
He's pooped poor guy. I managed a 30 min nap and seem ok for now. More updates to come, and pics of course.
