I won't name names, though a quick search will give you far too much info for my comfort. But let's just say that in regards to setting up my new domain, they have allowed the final straw to be strung.
Greetings and closings cut for no particular reason. Note the Boldy text... really.
original issue
steps to recreate:
1. create subdomain pointer, example
http://comic.forestbed.com to point to
http://www.forestbed.com/comic2. note that a new directory is created at /comic instead of routing to /public_html/comic
I am creating this exactly like the existing pointer that seems to work (demo). Please let me know if there is an error in my process or if the tool's behavior can be corrected. Thank you.
...
I went ahead and bought comicinprogress.com and tried to point that to forestbed.com/comic and that is not working either. Is there a refresh period for the change to take effect?

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. I have noticed that you have setup the WordPress application using the domain
http://www.forestbed.com . Hence, the Web site comicinprogress.com is reflecting the contents of the forestbed.com. If you want to see the contents of the comic folder when you access the Web site comicinprogress.com, you need to update the WordPress settings in the database with domain comicinprogress.com.
If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.

That does not seem to be the correct answer for the issue. When I type in
http://www.comicinprogress.com, it redirects to the main forestbed.com site instead of to the subfolder /comic. How can we correct that?
...and repointing the wordpress to the comicinprogress.com url is causing 500 errors now.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused for you. I have checked and I was unable to access the Web site
http://www.comicinprogress.com . I have noticed that the WordPress is not installed through the InstallCentral. We are currently having the issue on the server due to which the domain is inaccessible. We are working to resolve it. Please check the domain functionality after 12-24 hours.

I have updated the domain pointer for comicinprogress.com, how long will it take to actually point to the subdirectory instead of the homepage?

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. I have checked and noticed that you have installed the WordPress application to the domain forestbed.com. Hence when you try to access the folder comic/ it is redirecting to the domain forestbed.com. I have pointed the domain
http://comicinprogress.com/ to the URL
http://www.forestbed.com/comic using the domain pointer tool. Now the domain
http://comicinprogress.com/ is showing the content of the comic folder. Please check from your end.

It works now.
However, I am woefully underwhelmed at this level of support. The responses I was given were logically flawed and technically improbable. If wordpress settings caused the issue, then going directly to forestbed.com/comic would have redirected to forestbed.com also. It never did that. Only going to comicinprogress.com went to forestbed.com.
I had already set the domain pointer for comicinprogress.com to forestbed.com/comic (again) earlier this morning. It did not work until this afternoon, and my last inquiry was a simple propagation ETA request.
I feel that the support team never fully read or understood any level of my request and gave the convenient EU-error response rather than bother to comprehend the questions at hand. I do understand that as a frustrated user, my impression is completely biased, but, given the logic and behavior stated above, I am very disappointed with the support team.
Having done my share of tech support, I know, 95.7% of the time it is user error. But the reasoning they gave me was so... flawed. And the complete lack of answering the question just baffles me. We all do it, but I am a customer now. I don't have to take it! Hah! So if you have a host you really like, let me know please.
And By the Way, I have a new site for the comic I'll be doing.
