officially over and gone

When I was doing my portfolio the other week, which, by the way, I think I've gotten all the final rejection notices from Google that they give, I noticed that the CamSCR site had finally been updated after almost 3 years since I quit doing it. So, with their site being updated and my access either gone or forgotten, I have finally unsubscribed from all lists. The Cam is no longer a part of my life it seems. My characters are gone from venues, my spam filter is a little less clogged, I marry and move on.

So, the Google thing. I made it through the filter, made it through the first round calls (there were two really), but I think it was the code samples that killed me. I sent in very basic, simple things, but maybe I should have done a more extensive send, like a fully functioning, object-oriented application? We shall never know. Still, it is very, amazingly cool that they cold-called me.

I have about 7 recruiters trying to get me to apply to Dell, but B thinks my soul would shrivel and die there. Besides, I do really like the company I'm at. It was just... it was Google, you know? But the flattery ends there: We'll look at you, but... oh man, now that we see you, uhm, never mind; thanks.

So, I have to rethink the yarn log project. I want to make it more complex. Not the front end, the back end. I haven't done anything truly object-oriented in PHP and I believe I should. It will be cleaner. And I've piddled with pear, but would it make it easier? mmmm date widget. Or... maybe... just maybe... I should scrap it all and go Java. A fully functioning interactive application for my first toy? Intimidating. Well, now it's intimidating, it wasn't yesterday.

/sigh
