[Lillian] Work Parties

Dec 10, 2006 22:50

Who: Lillian McPhee
Where: The Rowland House (initially)
When: Mid-morning, June 16
Invited: Everyone in Haven, IL (anyone who wants to participate)
Status: Incomplete

Lillian looked at the assembled multitudes and felt something she hadn't felt in years: stage fright. Indiana and Shawn had been as good as their word. They'd awakened everyone they could find and gotten them together in front of the Rowland house. Lillian looked at them looking back at her. She swallowed hard. She took a deep breath and started talking.

"My name is Lillian. Lillian McPhee. I am employed--was employed--by the power company here in Haven. I worked in the power plant down on the river. Since the, since--" Lillian stopped, feeling her chest tighten at the memory of the Deluge and the plague that followed. She forced herself to continue. "Since the plague, I've been keeping the power plant running as best I can. I'm not sure why. It's not like I thought anyone was alive to care, I just...."

"I just did," she said at last. "Anyway, it's a big job. Too big for one person to manage. I was getting too far behind in maintenance and repairs so I had to shut down the plant. What I need from you people is help shutting off the power in all the buildings around town. Once that's done, one turbine will be enough to provide power for the buildings we're actually using, and one turbine is manageable."

"So, any questions?" Lillian said.

There were a few. She answered them as best she could. "So that's the skinny," Lillian said. "There are enough of us here that we can probably cover most of the town today. Get inside each building, find the main breaker box, and turn off the power. Once that's done, I can turn the power back on."

"Another couple of things, if you don't mind," a young man introduced to Lillian as Victor said. He walked up and stood beside her. "Some of the houses may have bodies in them. You don't have to deal with those today--we want to get the power back on and save as much of the frozen and refrigerated foods as we can--but mark the houses. Mark them on a map if you like, or maybe mark the front doors. We're going to have to deal with them pretty soon."

"Also," Victor continued, "don't assume all the buildings are uninhabited. I think you've all heard about the Critters. We haven't seen them in a couple of days now, but that doesn't mean they aren't nesting in an abandoned building somewhere. Also, there may be other survivors in town whom we haven't met. Don't be surprised if you stumble across new faces--and don't assume they're necessarily friendly either. Be careful."

Victor looked at the lovely young black woman named Ami. "Shall we?"

Ami smiled at him, but shook her head. She gestured at the brunette standing next to her. Lillian did a double take when she noticed the pistol the other woman was wearing openly on her hip. "I'd love to, but Michelle asked me to work with her. We have some things to talk about. I'll see you tonight."

Victor nodded. "Okay. I guess I'm flying solo, then," Victor said. "Unless anyone would like to join me?"

OOC: Okay, everyone is free to jump on this post and describe their adventures. Whether you discover bodies, find anything strange or useful in your searches, run into trouble with Critters or hostile strangers, or even stumble across other PCs or NPCs is up to you. However, I'd suggest that each individual/group start their own sub-thread since they won't be interacting with any of the other groups elsewhere in town.
