They were seven in their little town now. Of course, there was really no telling which of the new arrivals were going to stay more than a short while, but they were all probably going to be there for dinner. So, as soon as they got to the house, Noah went down to the basement and grabbed the folding chair from in front of the radio and some potatoes from the all but empty root cellar. It would be a little squished, but they could all sit down to dinner together, kind of a town meeting, with steak and potatoes.
Noah came back up, leaned the chair up against the table and dumped the potatoes into the sink to wash them. Then he pulled out the meat to thaw. It was the end of the steak in the freezer- in fact it was going to be a little light for seven, but this felt like a special occasion with so many new people and Henry seemed pretty interested in trying to keep the doctor around, so steak seemed like the thing to serve.
Henry pulled into the driveway and immediately regretted not moving the carcass of that thing from last night off the lawn. He hadn't expected to have to explain it to a couple of already shaken up newcomers. It had been picked over by the vultures and what was left was somewhat hidden in the long grass. Maybe they wouldn't notice on the way in and he could take care of it later. Henry gave Jason and Xander (who they had found about half a mile from the house on his way towards them) an almost smile and got out. Seeing Kayla and Jonas parked on the street, Henry walked about halfway to them (not too close yet) and waited for them on the walk up to the door.
