Dream starring Mike, Dot, and myself

Jul 19, 2008 09:52

So, I live on the poor end of town. My father is gone, and my mother owns a rather derelict composite entertainment center: There is bowling (a few lanes), a movie theater (or a few rooms to watch a movie), an out-of-business diner, a section closed off with "DO NOT ENTER" tape ... (I think something bad happened there.) There is a broken escalator leading upstairs, also roped off. Further into the place, around the corner, are stairs.

Those stairs lead to a billiards/bar room: it's abandoned and my bedroom. I try to sleep in a closet (I think there's a bed and dresser in it), but my mom's boyfriend (stepfather but they're not married) frequently resides in this bar room, drinking beer on a ruined couch and watching one of those old fifteen-inch cathode ray tube televisions (which sits on a tall narrow cupboard, with nothing inside it but a torn phone book and a few pieces of notebook paper). He doesn't like me, because he knows there's something wrong with me, although he can't figure out what. So he yells at me and tries to hit me (although he typically can't be bothered) ... so I'm not there very much. My mother spends most of her time working, although I rarely see any customers; the few times I see her she's on the phone trying to work out some kind of deal.

I spend most of my time hanging out with Mike and Dot. [How do you do the LJ-user thing?] The dream starts out on the school bus. They're sitting in front of me, chatting about something, while I'm reading (or finishing) a book. I look up and notice that Mike's wearing earrings that are identical to a necklace I have; Dot's wearing the same earrings I have. How cool it would have been, I thought, to wear both the necklace and the earrings today. However, my ears are not pierced, due to fear of my stepfather and through him, my mother. I decide to get them pierced, and to be sure never to be seen by them wearing anything. (I don't typically wear the necklace, either, for the same reason.)

We leave the store where I've pierced my ears, but down the street we see a gang of people we know from school; a nasty "biker" bunch with flamboyant leather jackets (although we never see their bikes and are not sure they have them.) Mike does not want to cross paths with them, so we duck into an adjacent toy store, which sells toys for children between the ages of five and twelve. Hiding between and behind racks of toys we see them peering through the glass, insulting the toys and store owners.

They leave, then we leave, but on the way out I grab one of those annoying rubber balls resembling a sea urchin, typically dog toys: It'll be fun to toss it back and forth on our way to Dot's house. (She is similar in circumstance to Melissa from Home Movies. Her dad is basically Melissa's dad.) I throw it against buildings and into the air as we talk.

This was a rather long dream; the middle is hazy to me now; I'll try to record it later.

We wind up at Dot's cabin in the woods; a magnificent getaway, it is more of a wooden house than a cabin. (It is similar to the house we stayed at for our choir retreat several years ago, adjacent to I believe the church was St. Ann? I'll have to ask Mary, our choir director.) This is not private enough for me: Dot's dad is there, company is over. It's business-related and he sells real estate; he keeps trying to talk about selling this cabin, or one like it, to some of his friends, but none of them are really interested and politely try to get him to take the hint. I want to get to a private area with a mirror so I can put my earrings in and see what it looks like. Maybe it'll look good, maybe it won't; I've never worn them so I can't be sure. We agree to slip away for a bit.

We exit the back door, entering a breath-taking, enormous, snowy mountain range (the kind you see in films like Lord of the Rings); it's snowing. We walk out to the precipice; the cabin, as it turns out, was near the edge of this mountain cliff.

Like any good dream, I have super powers! :D One of them is that I am very closely connected with nature and my environment. Stepping off the mountain, I turn into a polar bear the size of the mountain. The polar bear (or wintery bear of some kind), because we're in snow and it's snowing. The size of the mountain because we're on a mountain of that height, and especially surrounded by other mountains. Mike jumps onto my nose, and Dot hands him packages (big balls of yarn and some other things.) He almost drops one; I turn my head a bit and he's able to grab it before it rolls off my nose. Dot jumps on; they climb further up onto my head and I turn and walk across the mountain range: her secret hideout is in a cave directly across on a mountain of slightly lesser height. (They, of course, resemble the Ice Climbers for the duration of this trip.)

(Because I'm closely connected with my environment, I'm a very good free-runner, able to morph to suit my climbing needs; this helps earlier when I'm climbing the walls of a church built after the gothic style, to escape from some diabolical clergymen. I'm fairly good at hiding; if I'm standing next to a fat person I can become a similarly fat person, etc.)

They hop off and go inside; I turn into an eagle-type bird and sail down, transforming back and walking in after them. The cave, as it turns out, has a nice den/living room (with gaming systems), bedroom and bathroom in it; a modest house within the cave. Apart from the entrance you don't know it's even in a cave. Vestibule -> Living room with both bedroom and bathroom connected to it.

Just as we get situated (and Mike begins one of his Japanese rhythm games), my stepfather arrives outside. How he's gotten here, I'm not sure, but he's intent on ruining the party. The dream breaks down a bit from here; I go off into the bathroom to hide, he chases after me; the bathroom is a very complicated labyrinth of stalls and walls lined with variously-styled sinks and mirrors. There are pools of water on the ground and it appears to have been a portal back to the cabin, because the decor is in line with that of the cabin (deep greens and browns, etc.)

There are funny little details here and there. Like, she has both restrooms for Men and Little Girls (I think the Women was scratched out and a sticker was plastered over most of it); the Men's restroom looks rather old and hasn't been used in quite some time (obviously, since it's her hideout), so I duck into the Little Girls room (noting to myself that it really doesn't matter which I use because it's only us here, and I'm rather frustrated that I spent the time to think about it). When my stepfather shows up and follows suit, this makes him a little more irate.

The dream is essentially over here; I have temporarily lost him, but I can't really stop to get to a mirror else he'll catch up with me. (I also stopped to urinate at a urinal at one point, before he entered the labyrinth; I think this reflected that I really did need to wake up and go to the bathroom.) I realize that I am out of time, and I awake.
