Personal Essay
Each candidate for admission possesses qualities not necessarily visible in a list of activities and achievements. We have found that an essay is an effective way to gain a more complete and fair understanding of a candidate for admission to Vanderbilt. You may choose the essay's topic. The essay should allow us to develop a sense of your effectiveness in written communications, and to understand more fully who you are and what you value.

What do you think?

Me: What does this essay tell you about me? What do you think of me based on this paper?
*: That you're a hard working person who sets high goals for himself.
Me: am i blaming my parents for my problems? am i being too personal? do you give a damn about problems i had in high school?
Me: my mom thinks they don't care why i didn't make the grades in high school, and that by mentioning meds i'm showing myself as a psychiatric patient
Me: that it would be better if i omitted the depression and the medications
*: Meds... *shrug*
*: They care a lot about highschool grades and why you think you made what you did.
Me: that's what i thought ... they look for patterns, and trends, and they want to know how successful i'll be
Me: that's what i tried to talk about
