See, when I get a boxed set, I like to go through it slowly, savouring every drop of goodness and making it last as long as I can. Which is why I hope you'll forgive me for having just devoured Disc One of the Season One boxed set I got for Christmas. In that spirit, I present the following three thoughts:

1. The trailers. These were the least popular aspect of the new series, and I wondered if some of the complaints have been taken on board. I distinctly remember watching The Unquiet Dead with a friend after Aliens of London had aired and being shocked at how much of the episode was given away by the 'Next Time' trailer. The DVD version seems to be missing some of the more explicit spoilers. Can someone who taped The Unquiet Dead off the TV confirm that this is the case, or is my memory just going a bit mushy?

2. The music. Again, one for someone with off-air copies to answer. I liked Murray Gold's music for Shameless, so I didn't experience as much of a culture shock as some people did when I heard the soundtrack for Rose. I did, however, find it a bit loud, sometimes drowning out the dialogue in the first two episodes. It seems much quieter on the DVD. Is this just because I'm used to the new show's style by now, or was the sound mix refined a little for the DVD versions?

3. Finally, as a Who fan of some twelve years' standing now, I'm greatly enjoying both the new episodes and the new fans, opinions and perspectives that have pumped a bit of fresh blood into the veiny arm of fandom since March 2005. Watching the episodes again, I started counting up the references, inspirations and continuity points from old episodes. I wondered if a full list of all these 'kisses to the past' might be of interest to anyone here? If so, I'll start posting my annotations in this LJ.
