I was accepted.. and I didnt care and I didnt want to visit and I didnt want to attend. In other words I was already set on a different school. I got into this other school as well, it being Rochester Institute of Technology... I was facinated by everything about the place.
But, my mom drug my ass to Miami U .. and that was when cupid struck me with his damn arrow. I fell in love. Haha. Miami University has the atmosphere I want in a college. Entirely.
The school is a liberal arts college, so I can get a well rounded education while I pursue my interest in physics and engineering. The skating is outstanding and all the athletic facilities are unbeatable. I will live in the gym on the stairmaster with my textbooks propped up and open while I listen to some random track with the ocean surf or tropical birds. - (Side Note: I discovered this method of studying not too long ago: Since I HATE cardio and I HATE sitting down to do my homework, I figured I would integrate the two into an activity where I am multitasking so I spend less time doing these things I hate. Turns out, I enjoy it. Imagine that.) Moving on..
Miami University is home to two of the nations number one synchronized skating teams in the disciplines: Senior and Collegiate, for which I will be trying out. I have many of the credentials they are looking for, but I may not have enough synchronized experience (coming from the west coast where synchronized skating is utterly unknown.) In any event, I am going to try to make it on one of their teams. If it happens to be Senior, I am up for an INTENSE season of nationals and worlds (MU Senior team is ranked 4th in the world), and if it happens to be Collegiate, then I can compete nationally and also have a life. :) There are 17 Collegiate Teams in America, so Synchronized skating is 3 teams short of qualifying to be an NCAA sport. Even though it is not quite one, MU follows the NCAA rules, as well as completely funds the synchronized skaters. < booyah!! That would make skating and school affordable!!!
If synchronized skating falls through and I dont make a team, MU has a great Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team for which I would skate. There are all sorts of Intercollegiate skating competitions on the east coast, and all of us girls and guys would pile into a bus and head out to these competitions. That would be a thrill! Miami U just is putting up two new sheets of standard NHL size ice right next door to the athletic complex. One has full arena seating, the other has half arena. It is AMAZING. It will open this summer all brand new (but I saw the construction this Spring .. wow.)
As far as living goes, I signed up for the German Language floors where I could speak German all the freaking time! I have always loved busting it out and chatting with friends who can speak it, but I have always been far to shy with strangers. This will be an environment where I will be with other people who are uber geeks regarding German, und wir koennen alle uber geeks zusammen sein! (NB: since uber is German, so this is highly appropriate!) As it stands I just chat with my edge coach Victor Kraatz < how incredibly German sounding, eh?
Orientation for MU runs all through June, so I signed up for the June 9th and 10th session. (I will still be in school at that time!! Yes, Canada is on too much crack/weed and other drugs to figure out that they should let their grad class out around mid/late-MAY instead of JUNE 29th!)
Other comings, news, and olds!:
Skating is fun!
APs are INTENSE. Stat and Calc this coming week; Physics, Econ Micro & Macro the next.
Sean and I broke up for various reasons, including school being really important right now as well as the fact that I am leaving mid summer. *sigh* Nice while it lasted, nice to still be tight.
I shall be visiting Seattle after APs and I am very excited to be doing so.
I got Some Senior Pics taken by my buddy Sean Murphy:
some are VERY gangster others are kinda cute. Well I think this is a quality enough entry for now! Take care everyone, and good luck next year, wherever you may be!
Loves and Hugs,
