Debate Question Regarding A FF8 Fic

I think both characters are afraid to show their vulnerability, when there's so much of it underneath the surface. If Seifer didn't crave attention and recognition, maybe he would not have gone with Edea. Plus, if he and Quistis were to open up to each other, I think he would find not only someone with a kindred spirit, but maybe someone he could feel like he could protect (even if she is more than capable of defending herself). Seifer, I think, wants to be a protector deep down. Why else is his dream of being a knight to protect a sorceress? Quistis could be his proverbial sorceress.
Quistis is really a very fragile soul underneath that no nonsense teacher exterior. First, she is distanced from her peers because of the teacher-student relationship. She's just a teenage girl, with normal problems of self-esteem issues and having crushes on boys. Quistis, I feel, is very insecure with herself, which is why losing her teaching job and Seifer calling her a mediocre teacher is so painful, even if she does have a fanclub. Being a girl barely out of teenaged years myself, a lot of times the one or two insults thrown in with the praise end up cancelling out all the praise. Some times I wonder if maybe she and Xu are close friends, but I get the feeling that she believes she has no one to talk to. So she is probably lonely. (I also think that Seifer, even though he has his posse, does not confide his personal feelings to Raijin and Fujin. They are loyal friends, but I do not think they are the deep conversation type.)
I also think Quistis would love have a protector. She says so herself in the game after Squall rescued Rinoa in space that she wondered if she would ever find someone who would do that for her. So even Quistis, a powerful fighter, wants someone to make her feel safe. Although I imagine there would be some animosity at the start ("Crappy instructor!" "Garden dropout/international fugitive!"), once they could see through to the real Quistis and Seifer underneath all the tough exteriors, they could find a real connection.
