FF8 stuff...

This is all about para-magic. I'm really tickled over the idea that a physical type of thing can be withdrawn from a creature. The spell itself... well, is it a physical type of thing? That constitutes only to the fact that spells are differentiated into numerals. But if it's as magic is normally, how do you just have a bunch of spells racked up ( Read more... )

This is going more into theory since 'Magic' is not defined at all in the game.

Let us postulate that magic is a form of energy, therefore it has some kind of mass and can be contained. Also, to live either as a plant or animal, energy is needed to maintain that life either through photosynthesis or in consumption of food and nourishment, meaning that all living things contain energy to maintain its vital functions.

Since the source of magic is to draw energy from living creatures and the environment, we can assume that all magic comes from living things either plant or animal.

A normal mortal alone cannot tap into this energy becuase it is so vital for life, however a GF can tap into this energy becuase they are of the same kind of energy themselves but a GF can exist independently of a living creature.

Now the question comes up of if you constantly draw magic from a creature, don't you steal the life force out of it? Apparently not. In the many battles I've been through through the course of this story, there has been no changes to the status of your opponent when drawing magic or other Guardian Forces, meaning that a GF understands a balance of how much to draw out without harming the host.

On the flip side however, this theory opens the possibility of having someone draw the GF junctioned to you to steal for their own. I'd like to think that if one has a very high compatibility, it would greatly increase the chances of not having your junctioned GF taken away from you. Remember that they have their own thoughts and motives, and who would want to leave someone where they are compatible with to someone who has absolutely no compatibility what so ever? Again, this last part is my personal opinion.

So it's time to go over the key points discussed so far: The Goddess Hyne is believed to create the world and mankind. There are individuals who are said to have inherited a fragment of Hyne's power. The theory that Guardian Forces are neither gods or demi-gods but mere creations of Hyne to protect the world. Para-magic is not really magic, its artificial, and not all mortals are meant to use it which could be the underline cause of long term memory loss over time. However, a GF is a non-corporeal entity but has energy just like the living beings and environment around them. Assuming that magic is energy itself and it comes from mortals and the life around them, a GF can tap into that and extract that magic to store for later use.

You with me so far?

Becuase a GF is bound to a mortal, there is a limit of how much magic drawn that the mortal can hold. I'm not saying that a GF holds this magic because if you junction this GF to someone else, the mortal still has the stored up magic inside them, but now they have no means on how to use it.

I'm concluding that the bottom line of 'Para-Magic' is heavily dependent on Guardian Forces who can channel the life-giving energy of living creatures and the environment around them. The mortal who hosts the GF stores this magic and surrenders a part of them self to the GF that can be identifed as long term memory loss, but it could be something more that cannot be described in words or human expression.

What makes them different from a sorceress or other unique individuals is that they MUST have a GF bound to them in order to tap into this energy. A Sorceress or people like Ellone do not need to use them and are free of the ill effects.

... At least that's what I think and this whole thing turned into an 'effin essay. Enjoy!
