Hey everybody…before I start the entry I just would like to take the time and welcome the new members to our awesome community! For those who are new I hope you will enjoy your time with us, and feel free to post your views and whatnot anytime you wish. Ok...on to my topic for today.
Ok so as most of you already know, I am a huge Rufus fan…and you know I love a topic regarding him…so I have one for today. Well this post was inspired by this website I was on a month back, and a heated debate I had with some friends today. This topic is regarding Advent Children, so to avoid possible spoilers I have posted the entry in the below lj-cut. And of course I always love presenting debate/discussion topics in many different forms. So this time I have posted a few questions (which either my friend asked or I found of the site) which is followed by “my opinion” (MO).
Q: Does Rufus have bad aim? How the hell did he miss when he was unloading a few rounds at Kadaj, right after he jumped of the ledge?
MO: Ok first of all, Rufus does not have bad aim. There is a difference between bad/random shooting, and strategic shooting. Rufus was clearly doing the smart kind. To me it looked as if he was aiming at the building itself, or a pipe above Kadaj’s head. The reason why I say he wasn’t aiming at Kadaj was because the first three shots he fired hit the exact same spot, which was that object on the ceiling. So if it was bad shooting, then his first three shots wouldn’t have been so identical. And besides, Rufus isn’t stupid. When he jumped of the building and aimed his gun towards Kadaj, he must have figured it would have been a waste of ammo because there wasn’t enough time for him to inflict much damage to a Jenova infused being while he was falling. And even if a few of the shots hit him, it wouldn’t have killed him, unless they were headshots. So I’m assuming Rufus was just trying to cause the explosion, not to make Kadaj jump…but to actualy kill him. So yeah…I don’t it was Kadaj’s failed materia attack which caused the explosion, but it must have been Rufus’ gun.
Q: What would have happened if Kadaj attacked Rufus with his sword instead?
Not my opnion...but I do agree: Actually I think this was a pretty cool question. I read somewhere (keeping in mind that this was somebody else’s opinion) that the original plan was for Rufus to reveal the box to Kadaj, toss it over the ledge, and allow Tseng and Elena to catch it with their net guns. Even though some people may not agree with this person, but he believes that Rufus had a huge advantage over Kadaj in that small and enclosed area. If Kadaj attacked with his sword, then it’s a possibility Rufus would have been able to hold Kadaj off for a while with his gun. Why does he think that?
• As shown by Vincent’s attack, Kadaj’s sword really isn’t built for deflecting bullets…especially lots of them at a close range.
• Knowing Rufus, he has more weapons in that spiffy coat of his. And I’m no expert in fire arms, but am I the only one who finds it weird that Rufus’ weapon was able to shoot 13 shots without reloading? And was it me…or the bullets look more like lasers? I’m thinking that gun runs on some type of energy source for it to fire so many bullets/pulse-ammo without reloading. And apparently that weapon was NOT a shotgun. According to wikipedia, it was a handgun or some weird pistol.
Anyway…as for me…I think Kadaj would have been in some major trouble if he attacked with his sword. So I guess Rufus would have hurt him pretty badly, seeing as how its very unlikely Kadaj could block all of those bullets. Then Rufus would have probably just fled via helicopter…like he did with his battle with Cloud. In a sense, he was just trying to play piggy in the middle with the box. After he tossed it over the ledge, Tseng and Elena would have retrieved it, and then it would have been in Rufus’ possession all over again. But this never happened, so oh well.
Q: Was Rufus aiming at Kadaj for a while as he was trying to catch the box? If so…he cannot shoot very well.
MO: Again…Rufus isn’t stupid. Some need to understand that it is very hard for anybody to shoot somebody in that kind of position. As I said before, it would take quite a few bullets to take down Kadaj, unless it was a headshot. But Kadaj’s head was simply an impossible target while they were falling. Anyway…I don’t think he was shooting at Kadaj OR the box while they were falling towards the ground. I think Rufus was just shooting between Kadaj and the box in order to distract him. You have to admit, trying to make Kadaj focus more on the bullets then catching the box was a smart plan, because if Kadaj didn’t catch it…then the box would have probably busted open when it hit the ground, which would have been more effective then a bullet hole. But when Kadaj was getting closer, Rufus mumbled something under his breath, squinted, shot Kadaj’s hand, then the box. Great going Ruf! :)
Q: Did Reno and Rude know Rufus had Jenova’s box?
MO: To be honest, I think Reno was the only one who wasn’t aware that his boss had Jenova. Many think that Rufus was indeed in the helicopter in the beginning of the film, and he was the one who took it from Elena. Of course there is no solid proof of this claim. My only proof is when Reno said “And wherever your mother is…we just don’t know it!” Then Yazoo says “What…the peons aren’t trusted?” Notice how Reno seems to be the one who takes it offensive. Every time Reno looked at Rude, he looked away. So I’m assuming that Rude feels as though Yazoo’s comment doesn’t imply to him because he knows that his boss has Jenova, but Reno didn’t. I could be wrong, but that’s what I think.
There were more questions, but I just felt like posting those for now. My next topic will be Final Fantasy 8 related, so I’ll have to post the remaining questions another time. But I hope you like them, and if you disagree with any of my claims…I encourage you to post your views! Have a great day everybody!
