I really liked the sphere grid in X as well. At first I truly hated it. I didn't understand it, it wasn't normal, and I just wanted a "normal" level-up system...but then suddenly it just clicked, and now I love it. I feel like I have complete control over my characters, and that there is (almost) no limit to what I can do with them. I have an open game now where I just run around gaining spheres because I want to teach every character every ability. Not to even use it...just because I have the option, so why not take it?

Junctioning in VIII I also didn't really like at first, though once I got used to it I became a Junctioning Master...but I agree, it almost felt like cheating.

I really like Materia though, not necessarily because of character building, but because of the added challenge of going around getting the rare Materia...do you really need most of the super-strong Materia to beat the game? Certainly not. But it sure is a lot of fun trying to get it :)

And I might be weird, but I like the dress spheres in X-2. On a whole X-2 is definitely not my favorite game, but that's largely because of how much I love FFX Yuna and I feel like X-2 completely changed her character...but I like the garment grids. Like Materia, there is the fun of collecting all of the grids and dress spheres, and it adds so much to the game, trying to learn abilities.

I felt the same way about the grid as well. Another problem I had was that I brainstormed way too much about the movements of the actually characters, lol. I mean I treated the game as if it was a life or death match in chess. Nevertheless, it was very satisfying experience. I think FF 12 has something like the sphere grid. I believe it's called "license to skill." :D

Yeah, junctioning was very hard to master. But it was satisfying when it was all set and done.

I'll admit I enjoyed hunting down the materia in FF7. I use to master the materia "all" and sold it. You get SO MUCH money hen you do so, it's unreal. Some materia was pretty expensive.

The dress spheres weren’t bad at all. I just hated the rules for the final ones a bit. I fell in love with the Dark Knight dress spheres. I think Yuna sues Seifer's stance when she is a dark knight, I can't quite remember. But it was interesting to have a FF game with no summons to use. At first, I despised the battle system, lol. Not to mention the damage you deal in it, but I digress. It was a game still worth playing though. :)

Haha I did that for the longest time as well! I hate skipping nodes, even when they are unimportant and I know I will be eventually have so many spheres I can go back to them...and whenever I reach a "cross-road" or whatever--or when a character is done with his/her own section of the grid, I deliberate for SO LONG on what to start teaching them next :)

Dark Knight pwns. :p I also really liked alchemist because who can so no to healing without using MP or items? I actually never really used the "special" dressspheres...but X-2 had possibly the easiest non-cheat ever...with the Cat Nip item, for whomever it was equipped to every action dealt 9999 when in critical status...so if you equipped it to a gunner with level 3 trigger happy it was like using Omnislash or Lionheart! Even though I felt like I was cheating by using it, it was really helpful if you were item hunting in an area with tougher fiends because it made the battles end so fast!

Lol, yeah skipping nodes wasn't an option for me. And besides, the grid looked nice and lit up when most of them were activated, lol. I was intimidated when I first saw how huge the grid was, lol. Lucky the monster drop lots of keys and points to move around pretty fast. :)

Alchemist was pretty awesome. I had a hard time leveling up my white mage one. I hated working on it, lol. But it was one of your most important ones, though. I've heard of the Cat Nip item, but the combo you used sounds so cool. I know you whopped Shuyin, lol.

I actually found White Mage really easy to level...dresspheres gain abilities based on 3 things--defeating an enemy, using an ability unique to that dressphere, and using an ability unique to the garment grid...and I would a lot of times just have the White Mage pray on every turn, so she got an ability point on every turn and just shot right on up there :) Lol I actually didn't use cat nip until the very end of the Shuyin battle. I wanted to make sure I heard all of the things they said so I just sort of played around up until he talks for the last time, then...that's all she wrote :)

Wow, I should have done the same thing. Keep using pray every turn. You've got come pretty* cool tricks. Either that or I'm slacking, lol. Oh I see. Yeah it was a good thing you waited and used it at the right moment. Some people are in a rush to use some of the powerful items. I think there as an item in FF8 that can kill a sorceress in one hit, I've never seen it, but it could be a mere game-shark cheat. :
