Technological Advancement in FFVIII

How much do you think technology in the FFVIII world would have been affected by the influence of Adel's tomb?

For one, I don't think they would have mobile phone technology, or much other advanced tech in the way of remote communication.
To use the Real World as example, mobile phones have only really become the big thing within the last 10-15 years. Before then there were some but they were big clunky things not really suited to the usage of everyday people. Now we have mobile phones that are really pocket-sized but that sort of tech has to build on a history.

Now let me presume a bit here and say that the sort of transmission networks the suport mobiles would not have worked while Adel was entombed. Satelite technology probably didn't work either so there was practically no background tech to suport the development of mobile communications.

On the same theme, I also think the reason why trains seem so prevelent is for the same reason - planes would need remote communication techology to work effectively the way we know it so that would have been hampered as well.

On the other hand, the game itself makes reference to cable-based communication, mentioning during the Timber mission that most television at the time the game happens is distributed online. Stuff like internet would probably advance quicker in the absence of any easier form of communication and without funds being used in favour of remote communication more could be used to lay long distance cabling - probably with high-strength protection to guard against possible sea-dwelling monsters.

It's a factor that is worth wondering about.
