Can any of you recall a Final Fantasy quote that you like? If so, which one? Despite the fact that I love the comic relief kind of quotes I consider my favorite kind to be the really deep ones. I noticed that as a Final Fantasy game progresses, the quotes often tend to get deeper and deeper, with a pinch of comedy within them. I’m sure when Cloud

Haha I am such a quote geek! But...I'll try and narrow it down to just a few :p
I think my #1 favorite though would have to be
Don't say it isn't worth it...because it is. -Yuna, FFX; It this very simple, very short statement, but it's so positive and optimistic and I think if you had to pick one defining statement of Yuna's that would be it. And the way she delivers it always makes me want to cry because there are just so many emotions in just a few words...and it also just means a lot to me because it's an attitude towards life that I try and carry as well :)
Others I really love...
I know why I'm fighting. I'm fighting to save the planet, and that's
that. But besides that, There's something personal too... A very personal
memory that I have. What about you all? I want all of you to find that
something within yourselves. If you don't find it, then that's okay too. You
can't fight without a reason, right? So, I won't hold it against you if you
don't come back. -Cloud, FFVII
Life is but a passing dream, but the death that follows is eternal. -Seymour, FFX (I'm really not a morbid person I just really like the poetry in that line :p)
You've all heard this before. How
life has infinite possibilities. I don't believe that one bit. There
weren't many paths for me to choose. Sometimes, there would only be
one. From the limited possibilities I faced, the choices I made have
brought me this far. That's why I value the path I chose... I want to
hold true to the path that HAD to be taken. I know our opponent is
Matron, whom we all love very much. We might lose something very
important on account of the GF. But I don't mind. It's not like I
drifted here on the tides of fate. I'm here because I chose to be here. -Irvine, FFVIII
And...just about a million others. I love everything surrounding Zidane, Kuja, and the black mages in IX as far as how you define existence, and really just the entire script of X...but those are my particular favorites :)

I love Seymour's quotes as well. I think he was the best Final Fantasy Villain. he was so dark, yet calm. I loved when he said "You all are in a rush to die, so I will end you're lives...along with your meaningless existence!" That was so deep, lol.

Yeah it kind of reminds me of that in a way as well, but Squall's is more, to me at least, promoting group unity whereas Cloud's is focused on believing in what you are doing. Which I guess though is one of the bigger differences in SeeD and Avalanche, and especially in Cloud and Squall. SeeDs do what they are told and don't ask questions, and their focus was on operating as a group, whereas Avalanche was a rebel group fighting the government the entire way, with a ragtag group of people from every background imaginable fighting for personal reasons.
Not that SeeDs weren't noble...and Squall's group ended up breaking away and kind of doing what they thought was right even if it was against their creed. I like Squall's speech. But to me Cloud's was more personal :)

I just thought of something. I know it's a bit off topic. But at first, I thought it was Cloud that defeated Shinra, but in a sense, it was meteor, right? I mean when Cloud said "Shinra's finished" I guess he only believed that because he thought all the members were dead. But Rufus wasn't dead; he was just temporally injured, and unconscious. So in a sense, meteor dealt the finishing blow to the company.
Here's another theory I thought of. Judging from how the Forgotten Capital is still in good condition, I would say Midgar was the only city that was wiped out during Meteor. Which would mean Junion is still in 1 piece. So since the movie clip that takes place 500 years into the future shows Midgar in trees, I would assume Rufus rebuilt Shinra in Junion. That's what I think. Man, I am whipped over this game, lol.
I better go to bed, lol.

Haha :)
Midgar had the most damage because that was where Meteor made impact....or at least, almost made impact. I bet if you went to Nibelheim or Rocket Town they too wouldn't have suffered much damage.
I would say Shin-Ra self-destructed more than anything. I don't think it was Cloud or Meteor or Weapon--I think that Shin-Ra's decisions were just so misguided from the beginning that it was a gradual descent into failure. And I think Cloud's leadership attitude vs. the attitudes of the leaders in Shin-Ra is why--the company was concerned with self-gratification--they didn't care about the planet, they didn't care about the inhabitants of Gaea, they only cared about what would make money and give themselves more power--from the beginning, but even towards the end--after the events at the Northern Crater instead of admitting they had been wrong, that there was a *huge* threat to the life of the planet and everyone and everything on it and teaming up with Cloud's group to fight it, they still wanted to go their own route, abusing materia, and going so far as to place the blame on the only group of people who were actually trying to stop another major world catastrophe from occuring.
And something else I keep meaning to say whenever it comes up--everyone talks about the Shin-Ra building being destroyed in the Weapon blast, and how could Rufus survive falling 70 stories--but the building didn't collapse. There was severe structural damage and a definite explosion, but in Advent Children the building Cloud is on when he defeats Sephiroth--and where he is shot by Loz and Yazoo--*is* the Shin-Ra building. An old, abandoned version of it, but nonetheless. I didn't notice that until replaying the game, they showed a wider view of the building and I realized the exterior structure was the same as the building where Cloud defeated Sephiroth :)

Another good answer you made. Shin-Ra was its own fall from grace. I noticed this when I first encountered President Shinra. He was all about the money, and I knew his company was going to fall. Then his son takes over. Though Rufus wasn't money hungry, his lust for mako was just as bad. It looked like Rufus was trying to slighly change his ways towards the end, thus saving the company. But it looks like the planet knew the compnay and Rufus had to be punished, thus the reason he has to rebuild the company from scratch, and he caught geostigma. He better be thankful he recovered psychically, lol.
Some people tend to to think that Rufus' reformation began in the end of disc 2, during the Sister Ray scene. But I don't think he got rid of the barrier to help Cloud, more to help himself really, lol.
As for the Shin-Ra building thing, post my reply in a separate comment in a sec.

As for me, I think the blast just threw Rufus to the back of his office, and his desk fell on him, thus shielding him from the blast. He probably then used his remaining strength to crawl out of his office, and stopped at one or two floors below, were he finally fainted. I can't see him staying in his office the entire time. I noticed his building in Advent Children, it was so decayed like. Plus they went inside of it, I think. You saw all the tiles and stuff like that when the light form their swords clashed.
But what's interesting is that he wasn't injured that bad at all. I looked up all of these sites that talk about Rufus, and that he can walk. The wheelchair's main purpose was to keep Jenova in a place close by, but made sure Kadaj never to get it. I can understand why he wanted the box to be close to him. If he had left it some where else, then he would have probably not been able to stop Kadaj from summoning another summon. I mean, Rufus is awesome gunslinger and all, but I think it would have needed more then his shotgun to stop him, which is why I say it's good he had Jenova with him.
Oh and I think Rufus was near death in the ending of the film. Did you see how sad the Turks were when they were around him? I think that stunt took all of his energy, which was why he was in the chair again. Not because of injury, but becasue of the loss of energy. So yeah, the attack didn't harm Rufus to bad.

Heehee yeah Rufus better be thankful he had a quick recovery :)
I agree, I never thought the Sister Ray fiasco was there to help Cloud...they were pushing their own agenda the whole time. Especially that you-know-what Scarlett :p (I've always disliked her!)
Bleh I should have phrased my bit about the Shin-Ra building better. I made it sound like I thought I was 100% correct, when of course I know better. Though I guess I'm not the only one who interpreted that building as such :)
I hadn't really thought about Rufus being in thin health at the end...the Turks are all pretty grave looking--but it also showed him being cured of his geostigma meaning up to that point he still had it--and Cloud is a clear example of how the stigma randomly affects it's carrier and severely reduces strength...I dunno, I'm guess I'm just too optimistic and naive, I always saw that whole scene as a sign of hope--and showing that Aerith did not exclude *anybody* from Great Gospel, healing everyone as equals, and that the remainder of Shin-Ra had finally been completely reunited.
I think it's an interesting topic as far as how severe Rufus' injuries were. I'd imagine that they were pretty dire, as two years later Cloud did not know he was still alive--and, again this is purely my speculation, but from Tifa's initial conversation on the phone with Reno it seemed to me like they'd had a least *some* communication with the Turks, even if it was just through Reeve. But I definitely agree that by the time of the AC events Rufus' wheelchair was more of a prop than a medical necessity. Though I'm sure having it helped with the Stigma :)
I'm kind of sad that Tseng was never supposed to "die" in the game though, I liked the fact that he kind of had a miraculous recovery as well. And I was much more willing to forgive Elena for punching Cloud right after Aerith died when she too had lost someone she cared about ;-)

Maybe watching Shinra had something to do with it...but I think it was more that Cloud just grew up. Upon having to rediscover his identity he learned why he was fighting and came to realize that unless you believe in what you are doing you'll never succeed.
As for Seymour...oh I am so torn. I really really hate him, but I also really really pity him. He had such a miserable existence and was truly brought up to be who he was by a lot of forces beyond his control. I don't even really consider him the villain of the game, but then, for X I don't really consider there to be a *true* external villain--except Yu Yevon. I think the antagonist in X is more internal than anything, as the game is the pursuit of truth moreso than the pursuit of an evil entity. But Seymour does have some wonderful quotes, doesn't he? One thing I must say to Seymour's credit, is that he honestly believed that he was doing the right thing. Most villains who want to destroy the world are seeking power of some sort, but Seymour truly thought he was saving people. He was just a bit misguided :p

Ah yes Seymour, he is a awesome character. To me, he is one big oxymoron, lol. He wants to save the people from their suffering, yet he wants to kill them all to solve the problem. Talk about deep. I guess that’s what his miserable childhood, combined with Anima’s power did too him. I loved his last quote though, “Though I may be gone, Spira’s suffering will remain!” I hope I got it right, lol. Of course Tidus countered that quote with a cool one as well, “But Sin will be right behind you.” Classic.
