Summary: Seifer reflects a bit on his past mistakes, while he and Selphie make their way to a SeeD graduation party.

Author's Notes: This is a setting the scene kind of chapter. Don’t allow the word count number to scare you, it’s not as long as it may seem. This is one of the longest chapters in the entire saga, so no need to fret, if you do not enjoy reading long stories. My goal is to basically present events that could have possibly happened after the game Final Fantasy 8. I tried not to make Seifer loose his tough guy side, during his return to Balamb Garden. Selphie is still as hyper as ever, well at least I tried to keep her that way. Well, enjoy. By the way, I have a favor. I was hoping at the end of your comment(s), can you please copy and paste a ceratin amount of "★" at the end of your comment(s). Basically the amount of stars will indicate your personal rating for this chapter. The ratings are below. Thank you so much, and enjoy. :D

★= This was horrible, excuse me while I throw up.
★★= Not bad, but it kind of put me to sleep. Needs a little more work. Sorry.
★★★= This was pretty good, I look forward to the next chapter.
★★★★= This was a awesome chapter, simply awesome. This is what I call a "good" story.

It has been six months since the end of The Sorceress War, and peace had once again welcomed the world. Though everybody is returning to some form of normalcy, people can’t shake the remembrance of Time Compression, and how it felt like forever. The young heroes of SeeD have been traveling throughout Centra, being thanked by its people.

A new Sorceress has not been heard of since the defeat of Ultimecia. Maybe it was all for the best that they seemingly disappeared from the face of the Planet. But maybe there was a new threat out there, harming people, but it has yet to be detected. Squall didn’t want to think about it anymore. He was just relived that his coldhearted self was a mere memory and that he can face anything that comes his way.

Despite this, he still felt a tad depressed. He knows that there are a few things he must do before he can consider his life “at ease.” After all, he did fight his longtime rival for many months, and they almost killed each other. They both knew it was time to settle the differences they both have, and begin a fresh new look on life.

Balamb Garden has returned to the area where its journey first began in the skies. Instead of residing in its original location on the land, the students of the Garden felt it would be best to remain on the shores of Balamb to train the next set of SeeD’s to defend themselves, their honor, and more importantly…their country.

Narration: “You’ve heard of it, haven’t you? That story of the two rivals from Balamb? One was very antisocial, a man of v few words, if you will, and he fought for his beliefs. What were his beliefs, you ask? Well at one point he thought that relying on others alone led you to world of bitter loneliness. Despite his ways, he took the rules of life very seriously, and he never questioned his missions, thus the reason he succeeded.

On the other hand, this man’s rival was a bit different. Power hungry would best suit his former personality. His dreams meant the world to him, everything else in his life came second. As for the rules, his # 1 rule was that there are no rules! Everyone is in charge of his or her own destiny; those who take orders from others will only keep you from what you want most. Though this rival possessed better fighting skills, his lack of authority would be his own doing. He eventually found himself fighting against his successful rival, as a sorceress’s knight, only to fail miserably. After 4 months, the x-knight realized the error of his ways, and has returned to his old home to become that SeeD he is always wanted to be, for it’s the only way to redeem his pride. That x-knight was me, and this…is MY story!”

The sunset bid farewell to Balamb Garden, as it rested peacefully in the cool shore waters of Balamb, a small island nation. Nothing but utter silence owned the halls of the school. Suddenly, a faint tapping broke the silence, and this was followed by a loud sigh. A patient Selphie tapped her foot, as she leaned against the wall which faced the closed door of a fellow Balamb Garden student.

“Man, what is taking him so long? We’re going to be late,” Selphie murmured. “Go figure, the very day he couldn’t wait for is here at last, and he’s taking his sweet time. Honestly, how long does it take for a guy to get ready for a party?”

She felt as though she was waiting forever. “I’ll be ready by 8:00,” he told her. Knowing it was around 9:00; Selphie couldn’t help but once again sigh in disappointment. The party was going to start in 15 minutes, with or without them. Unable to keep still, the eager SeeD found herself pacing slowly, waiting for the door to slide open, and longing for the man inside.

Seifer let out a sigh of extreme pleasure as the hot water ran along his body like hundreds of tiny streams running in a delta. He’d accidentally allowed the soap to escape his fingers, just like countless SeeD opportunities. Looking down in shock, the steam hid the bottom of the bathtub, thus making the search more difficult. Kneeling down, he allowed his hands to search the floor for the missing soap, until it was finally located.

After rubbing the soap for some foam, he casually tossed it back to the ground, once again allowing it to be out of sight. He roughly rubbed the foam in his face, and then stood under the stream of water to wash it away. All Seifer could hear was the loud sucking of the soapy water going down the drain. He then let out a loud hiss, followed by a “damn it” as some of the soap bubbles penetrated his eyelid defenses and touched the delicate eyeballs.

A few minutes later, Seifer found himself struggling to locate a towel in his steam-covered bathroom. The sting of the soap wasn’t making anything easier; nevertheless, he eventually got a hold of one. After drying himself of, he wrapped his lower body with a towel, and made his way to the mirror. He took his bare hand and wiped away some of the steam that hid his reflection, letting loose a grin of satisfaction when the mirror regain focus. He ignored the fact that his eyes were a bit red, and shook his head as he imagined how he was going to explain it.

In fact, it wasn’t hard for him to recall the last time his eyes was as red. The memory of him pushing through the throng of people in the bar was still very clear in his mind. A small grin would brush on his features as he caught sight of the same bartender that would give him a few rounds. Before the end of the night, Fujin and Raijin would come, sling his arms of their shoulders, and carry him away as the disgraced warrior’s head would hang as low as his pride. “Now look at me,” Seifer told himself as he smiled proudly in the mirror. As much as the reformed SeeD enjoyed trips down memory lane, he knew he has to continue getting ready, or they will be late.

Seifer ran the comb through his wet hair a final time, grinning when that one stray lock flicked forth. It was the final touch, and he knew how good it looked. Turning from the mirror, he flicked off the bathroom light and made his way to his closet. He only got half way since the sight of the uniform he was expected to wear caught his attention. He walked over to his bed, picked it up, and gave it his most disgusted look. “What the HELL is this?” Seifer said out loud. “If they think I am going to be seen is this piece off - -” Seifer began to protest, but was interrupted by a loud knock at the door. Without moving a single part of his body, his green eyes shifted from the suit to the door.

“Who is it…I’m kind of busy at the moment.”

“Seifer, I’ve been waiting for your slow butt for almost 20 minutes, it’s rude to keep a lady waiting you know. Seifer merely smirked when he realized who was complaining from the other side of his door. “Look Selphie, I’m moving as fast as I can. You know how sexy I am, and being sexy takes allot time and patience. It’s a hard job, but somebody has gotta do it. Then again, I wouldn’t expect someone of your standards to understand that.”

Selphie jerked back when Seifer’s words caught up with her. “Pu-lease! I’m not to sure what mirror YOU’RE looking in, you big…MEANY!!! Just put some pep in your step, we’ve got a PAAH-TAY to hit!” Seifer let out a loud sigh, and then began shaking his head. “I never asked for an escort, anyway,” he said under his breath. “What was that?” Selphie asked. “Oh, nothing,” Seifer began, “give me a second, I’ve got to change.”

After dealing with Selphie, the still nude Seifer’s smile faded when his eyes once again fell upon the hideous suit. “Humph, forget this thing…this is my night, and I am going out in style.” After putting on some boxers, followed by his trademark vest and blue baggy pants, Seifer then shrugged on his striking white trench coat that branded the Knight’s Templar in crimson glory.

“This is it,” Seifer though to himself, “the moment of truth. I have waited so long for this day, who would have guessed that it would be coming true? I proved them all wrong. A small smirk spread upon his face. “Now everyone will see that Seifer Almasy is no slacker, and that he can do what ever he puts his mind to. And more importantly, I’ll be a better hero then HE will ever be!” With these thoughts in mind, Seifer calmly walked towards the door, not before grabbing his gunblade. He gave it a soft kiss, slowly spun it around, tucked it away in his coat and continued towards the exit.

The door hissed open when Seifer approached it. With his eyes closed, he began to brace himself for Selphie’s wrath. “Look Selphie, I’m sorry I was - -” but when Seifer reopened his eyes, he realized he was speaking to himself. Just before the conclusion that she left without him came to him; he felt a small embrace from behind. Seifer forced a smile as the tiny SeeD girl, normally in a sunflower dress latched onto him.

“Hey,” he greeted, patting her on the head. A sense of relief welcomed Seifer after Selphie finally released him. She walked around him a few times, eyeing him very carefully. Shockingly, Seifer felt a tad nervous, but there was no way in hell he was going to show it.

“Heeeey! Lookin’ good!” Selphie remarked. Seifer opened his mouth to reply when Selphie let out a huge gasp. “Wait a minute…you’re not wearing the graduation outfit you are expected to wear. “You mean you can tell?” Seifer queried. Selphie almost missed the sarcasm in Seifer’s tone. Instead of wasting her energy to make a comeback, Selphie crossed her arms, tapped her right foot, and waited for an explanation.

When Selphie threw him a quizzical look, Seifer shrugged. He then leaned himself against the wall, with both feet firmly planted on the floor. “If you want to know what happened, then I’ll tell you. Without looking in her eyes, Seifer began to explain himself. “The museum of tacky things called me. They said they wanted their main attraction back. I had to give it to them; after all they would have taken my membership card.” Following his story, Seifer’s shoulders bobbed up and down as he quietly chuckled to himself.

With great caution, he refocused his eyes back to Selphie, expecting to see her with a smile on her face from his corny joke. Instead, all he found was a look of disappointment. It really irked Seifer when his eyes fell upon this expression. “What’s Headmaster Cid going to say when he sees you in your regular clothes, instead of the graduation uniform?” “Uhg,” Seifer groaned. “That I’m the only one at the party that has good taste in clothing,” the Balamb warrior replied, running a hand through his prickly blonde hair.

There was a brief moment of silence. When Selphie lowered her gaze, Seifer put a hand on her shoulder for comfort. “Look Selphie, if it bothers you that much, I’ll go- -” “No,” Selphie interrupted abruptly. When Seifer looked at her in shock, Selphie continued. “I’m not going to force you do anything you do want to do, if you do not wish to wear the stupid outfit, then I won’t make you.”

“…Selphie…”

Selphie then placed a hand on Seifer’s right cheek. His left arm then began to tremble, since he was tempted to touch the hand she placed upon him. A small yet powerful smile appeared on her face, and she continued. “Seifer, someday we are going to work together on a certain mission, the only way that mission will be a success is if we both have a bit of trust in each other, and learn to make decisions together at times. After all, you are a member of SeeD now.” Selphie ended with a smile.

“She was right…I am a SeeD now, Seifer began saying to himself. Trusting in one another is what SeeD is all about. Maybe I finally understand why my past terms were a complete failure; it was always my way, or no way, never taking into consideration of other people’s feelings. I’d jump into any situation and think of the consequences after the deed is done. Still, my reasons for joining SeeD are different. I doubt anybody would understand me, weather it’s Selphie, Zell, Fujin, Raijin, Instructor Trepe, or even Squall. None of them will ever understand me, or my reasons for even coming back to this place.”

Selphie gasped when she noticed as tears began to build in Seifer’s eyes, but only his left eye allowed a tear to escape. At that moment, she rammed herself into Seifer, and buried her face within his chest. Deep down, Seifer wanted to hug her back…but something was preventing it. “Is it pride?” he though to himself.

He took his hands, placed them on her shoulders and he slowly pushed her off. “What was that all about?” Seifer asked. “Selphie began whipping away some of her tears, and shrugged. “I guess I caught up in the moment,” she said putting both her hands behind her head, sticking her tongue out. “Well that’s enough of Young and the Restless for tonight, let’s go, or we are going to be late for the- -” “PAAAH-TAY,” Selphie interrupted.

Seifer merely shook his head, and began to make his way to the party. As he walked, he felt Selphie cling to his arm, laying her light head on Seifer’s shoulder. The sight of this, combined with the scent of the shampoo Selphie used really put a smile on his face. The scarred SeeD began to think that this was the start of something good.
