Tetris was addictive in the puzzle sense, it wasn't trying to be anything more than a simple puzzle. Plus, games back then were the best graphics of the time. No-one looked at Pong and went 'Crap graphics' because there wasn't anything else available to make them think that there was something better. Mario had good graphics for the time, it depends on the technology level. You can't look back on retro games and say 'crap graphics' because your comparing it to what we have today, which is a kinda dumb thing to do. Mario was a great game because of the puzzle sense - it wasn't the first platform game however - but it spawned a generation of platform games.

Sometimes storyline doesn't matter if gameplay is up there. Mario's storyline was one of the most cliche things ever; rescuing a princess from a castle. Yet the gameplay was good enough for you to not care about the storyline much, plus storyline wasn't a major aspect of video games back then. Take The Sims 2, you invent your own storylines, it doesn't have one itself and yet it's still addictive - just like most Sim games. Shadow the Hedgehog concentrated more on the gameplay than the storyline. Believe it or not a game with a good storyline but bad gameplay is still shite, after all that's the whole point in games. You may want to continue to play a game to see what happens in the storyline, yet if you can't stand the gameplay you're going to suffer more than you enjoy it.

Paper Mario wasn't really attempting to surprass the original Mario series, it was attempting to create a Mario RPG and I think it worked. Paper Mario 2 was, apparently, an improvement on the first.

When it comes down to it I don't think gamers should look at games in terms of graphics and storyline. Sure, we all love good graphics but to me a good game is one that offers an equal share of it all. It should have a decent storyline, decent gameplay, and decent enough graphics to make you realise the environment your playing in. That's the perfect game to me.

Remember, in the past it was up to the imagination to make the most out of what you saw on the screen, it's like reading a book. Today people rely less on their imaginations and want to see it all in front of them without having to think. Remember some of the earliest RPG's were text on a screen.

I played Kingdom Hearts and enjoyed it, although I haven't completed it. Kingdom Hearts wasn't trying to be Final Fantasy, it was trying to be a more basic version (and sometimes more enjoyable) of it. I don't think you can even compare FFX-2 to it, that game wasn't exactly excellent.

Hah yeah that's true, they probably had no idea graphics like today's would even exists, meaning they wouldn't have said crappy graphics. Not to mention it is some what of a low blow to compare those games to the present ones, I'll have to approach that topic in a different way.

Mario's storyline was simple yet fun; we were young and didn't give a damn about a storyline. Hey did you ever play that hunting duck game with the ducks, and you had that orange Nintendo gun? Man that was fun...I remember the music and the dog would run after the ducks when you shot them, good times. :D

Perhaps I didn't get further enough to judge paper Mario. I thought every most games main mission as to make one better then the next; I guess that's not always the case.

So I take it your looking forward the new Kingdom Hearts coming out right? It should be good. :D Final Fantasy 12 looks very interesting, but I won't cry if I don't get a chance to play or get it. I just feel so loyal so the old ones and my friend is hooked on FF 11. I watched him play it so much I hate it now, its way to complicated for me. :P The leveling up takes so damn long. I liked the sphere grid on 10, plus the leveling up, that was fun.

P.S. If you like Sonic games, and is we met up this year, I’ll bring it and you can have Shadow the Hedgehog and I’ll let you be the judge of it, if you want. I just can’t get back into it.

Wait a sec, Paper Mario was a completely different genre to the original Mario. Paper Mario was an RPG while the original Mario was a platformer. It wasn't a sequel in any sense, it wasn't trying to be anything like the original Mario games, just set in the same universe. It's the same with Shadow The Hedgehog.

Well, I would be if I actually had my PS2 at University, I couldn't take it because it's my brothers too. Even though I bought most of the games for it lol.

FF11 is just one big grind I heared, and not even fun to play because of it. I think it was a mistake going online, it's just not the same. Hopefully they'll never go online again.

I'm not overly excitied about FF12, it's just changing too much of a winning formula in my opinion, trying to adopt other RPG elements which were spawned from FF anyway! The random battles were pretty annoying, but it was all part of the fun in the end :p

I wasn't a big fan of the Sphere Grid myself, I'd prefer it if they went back to the old method (although never use the draw method from FF8 again, that sucked lol).

You could, but I'd have to use my seperate cable or this DVD thing I have to play it because it's an import and has a different region code to that of Europe. Europe has a PAL system while America and Japan have NTSC.

Yeah let's hope they don't make another online version, that was a a bit of a waste. FF 11 was similar to my favorite online game Phantasy Star Online for Gamecube. Have you heard of it?

The drawing system from 8 was fun yet annoying at the same time. I had to map out where all the good monsters were and the magic they had. Malboro's bad breath hardly effects my team anymore. :D But it wasn't easy making them like that lol.

Oh yeah I can't believe I overlooked that minor detail about the ps2, that was foolish of me. :P
