Now this next topic just came to me this morning, and I can not wait to hear the responses. Now you guys know I love Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children to death, I just had to say that so nobody will get the wrong idea. This morning I was questioning the actual existence of the movie. Was it really all that necessary? The ending of Final Fantasy 7 was so vague, it gave us the impression that “Shinra was no more, Sephiroth is dead, and everybody lived happily ever after.” So with that said…what was the point of the movie? I’m not saying I do not appreciate FF7 AC, but I can’t help question its purpose. If anything, I strongly believe that a movie for Final Fantasy 8 would have been a bit better of a choice. The ending for Final Fantasy 8 left people with many questions. Did Seifer ever return to Balamb Garden, what is the next major threat the SeeD’s must face, what is to become of Tribia Garden, will the GF’s ability to cause memory loss increase, and will Squall bond with his father?
The list goes on, but I think FF8 had more questions to be answered vs FF7. Then again it all depends on how the choice of making a movie for one of the Final Fantasy games was done. I can understand if it was to build on the Final Fantasy game that had the most basic ending; in that case Final Fantasy 7 would fit that category. It is pretty safe to say that ending was very bad, but I never thought it left anybody really think all that much because of the way it ended, unlike Final Fantasy 8. If Advent Children was never made, then nobody would have known what happened to Cloud, nor could they argue because the ending never revealed anything. So if Advent Children’s purpose is to build on that poor ending, then that makes allot of sense. However, if that movie was made to answer questions that nobody could answer, then I think they should have chosen to make a movie for Final Fantasy 8, since the ending was more descriptive and left us to think of. So basically, I am saying without Advent Children, it makes no sense arguing about the possible events that take place after the game, but it does make sense to debate about the fate of those in FF8 since the ending of that game gave us all a clearer picture. I must admit though, the creation of Advent Children caused the birth of endless debate topics, which makes things a whole lot more interesting. :)
