Fai had left his own apartment once he and Kurogane had agreed to meet. There wasn't much for him to there in the first place and Kurogane had said that he had wanted him there then. It couldn't hurt to take that literally. Of course, he never thought that "now" actually meant "sometime that day".
He had taken sometime to clean himself up before living though. It wasn't much though. All he really did was brush out his hair and pull it back again. He still didn't have many clothes so he wasn't as worried about his appearance as he normally would be.
Once he arrived at Kurogane's flat, Fai felt inexpictly nervous. He didn't know why. It wasn't like he and Kurogane hadn't spent time alone before. Something about this whole thing seemed more intimate. Maybe it was because of their bond as predator and prey.
After taking a deep breath he raised his hand to knock on the door, not wanting to interrupt Kurogane if he was still in the middle of his work. No sense in getting him all worked up at the moment.
Kurogane didn't hear the knock of the door over the spray of water. It felt rather good to just sit under the hot spray and relax for ten minutes. It was a luxury he did not often let himself indulge in, too busy or too rushed most of the time, or just too lazy to be bothered with it.
Though, he couldn't help it now. Kurogane thought that this encounter would probably undermine his nerves a little. Or at least, he thought it would be a tense situation. He could never predict what was going to happen with Fai though.
Fai knocked again when there was no answer, glancing around the hallway wearily. He never knew how lurked around in the halls and it made him uncomfortable to sit out there alone. Something told him not to just walk right into Kurogane's apartment, but something else encouraged him to do so.
He tried the knob experimentally to find it unlocked. It was surprising to find it unlocked, since from his experience Kurogane had always been through to the point of paranoid. Once the door was open there, he just couldn't bring himself to walk right in.
Kurogane shut off the water and wrapped a towel around his waist. He looked relaxed when he left the bathroom, a slight puff of steam following him out the door. He noticed that the door was open and looked at with an annoyed frown. Did someone come into his house? With a glare he approached the door, intent on finding out if the door had simply never been shut or if the lock (which he thought he had put into place) had been tampered with.
Fai had sat himself down next to the doorway, trying to figure out why he couldn't bring himself to waltz right into Kurogane's apartment. He had never an issue with this before, so why now? Why did this change now?
He stood up hastily at the sound of footsteps and the smell of the ninja getting closer to the door. Fai peeked into the apartment, turning away quickly when he saw that Kurogane had nothing but a towel on. That explained why he hadn't answered the door when he had knocked.
"I'm sorry." Fai mumbled, "When you said now, I thought that you meant immediately."
Kurogane blinked when he recognized Fai's voice and looked slightly flustered when he opened the door. "Haven't you ever heard of fashionably late?" He growled out. Though he wasn't telling Fai to scram. He stood back from the door and motioned for Fai to follow him inside. His blush seemed to fade a bit once he was back inside.
Fai refused to look at him, finding that the carpet was rather pleasant looking. "You don't seem the type to appreciate that." Fai said, looking up when Kurogane's feet disappeared from view. He hesitantly entered the apartment, noting that it was cleaner than it had been the last time he had been there. "You also didn't make this big of a deal of cleaning up the last time I was here."
Kurogane shrugged weakly, not that Fai saw it. "You seem like that type," he remarked. He glanced back at Fai when he mentioned the clean apartment. "Hn." Kurogane grunted, deciding not to comment on it.
Fai shrugged, looking around the apartment curiously. "It cleans up well." He said, moving to take a seat in the nearest chair. It truly did look much better now that the walls had a fresh coat of paint on them and there weren't any traps littering the floor.
Kurogane shrugged and seemed to suddenly remember he was naked except for a towel. He blushed again and turned from. "M'gonna get some clothes..." he muttered as he left the room, almost fast enough to be called hastily.
Fai nodded, making himself comfortable. Kurogane's apartment looked so comfortable compared to his. Part of it could be because he didn't really want the apartment in the first place, thus he wanted to spend as little time in it as possible. Keeping it void of anything that made it something other than a place to sleep helped prevent getting too comfortable there.
Kurogane came out a few minutes later, dressed and playing with his hair as he walked. He glanced at Fai and smiled when he noticed that the other was relaxing in the chair. He would have preferred that he be relaxed than to look so tense and uncomfortable when around Kurogane like he used to. "How have you been since I last saw you?" He asked, trying to make light conversation.
Fai looked up at Kurogane when he addressed him. "I've been well. Busy to say the least." He said, smiling a bit. "I do enjoy working at the bakery though. It reminds me of when we were in Outo. What about you?"
"That's good." Fai said, looking around the room. Now that he was there he was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. "Its looks even better than it was last time that I was here."
"I got help." Kurogane growled at that, looking annoyed. "From a brainless midget..." He noticed that Fai seemed to tense up and sighed a bit heavily. Did Fai think he was going to lunge at him or something? And it's not like Kurogane didn't like him being here... for gods sakes, he had practically invited him!
