Why the hell am I even here? was the mantra Cagalli had repeated in her mind. The answer was, obviously, 'because my father dragged me here'. As soon as she'd arrived, she'd made a beeline for the buffet table, although she was yet to actually sample any of the food, defeated by her vow to 'never eat anything you can't identify'. That stuff in the middle was probably caviar, but as for the rest of it, she was clueless.

Just to make a frustrating situation worse, she had been forced into a long green dress with a light green sash and various frills and ribbons, wearing a matching deep green mask over her eyes. Many girls would be thrilled to wear such an expensive and beautiful gown, but Cagalli was not 'many girls' and would much rather be in jeans and a shirt, not at a birthday party for someone she barely knew. She'd avoided dancing only by shooting every man who came near her a dirty look. Cagalli's mask, rather than covering her eyes, hung loosely around her neck.

She turned away from the buffet table in annoyed disgust, deciding to see if maybe Miss Ashelia Dalmasca had an empty TV room Cagalli could borrow until this boring event was over. As she turned, she bumped into Yuuki, stumbling back in surprise but not losing her damage. She was ready to snap, but took some pity when she saw the offender was clearly younger than her - and it wasn't like she'd been injured or anything.

"You alright?" she questioned awkwardly, wondering if perhaps she should put the mask back on after all. It seemed like practically everyone was wearing them - she had thought only a few people would bother.

More from distraction that anything else, Yuuki winced at the contact and immediately rubbed her shoulder. It wasn't Cagalli's fault it hurt so much - she really should, next time (if there was one), take more concideration as to when she'd offer her blood to Zero. The tired and dizziness were gone, but any slight touch made her limbs sore. "No no, it's my fault," she said apologetically, blushing slightly in embarassment. "I should have been paying more attention to what I was doing rather than looking at the food," she laughed nervously.

"It's alright," Cagalli answered, holding up a hand in a gesture of peace. Glancing back at the food, she quirked an eyebrow as she added doubtfully, "I'm not even sure half of that is edible. They could probably serve up melted candles and the people here would call it a fine delicacy." She gave an uncaring shrug, looking back to Yuuki. Feeling that she should at least do her duty as an attendee of the party, she pulled on her mask again, asking as she did so, "Are you friends with Ashelia?"

"No, I guess not..." Yuuki thought to herself, taking another look at the food. As if on cue, her stomach gave an overly large grumble, which she blinked briefly at, before laughing again. After a few seconds she took Cagalli's hand, nodding and smiling back at her. "Ashelia? No. I've never heard of the Dalmascan's until the Headma- father said he was invited here."

"I knew of them," Cagalli admitted, looking once more to the food herself. How anyone could find that stuff appetising was beyond her, but she was getting a bit hungry... "But our families don't have close ties." She stepped a bit closer to the food, gesturing for Yuuki to follow her. It wouldn't hurt to make nice-nice for a bit, and Yuuki seemed like a decent enough sort, not as pretentious as most of the people here. "Anyway, are you having fun?" she questioned.

(OOC: Would the Headmaster/his family be well-known to noble families? Just making sure whether Cagalli would know of the Cross family or not. XD; She knows at least the name of most of the upper class families of higher importance.)

"I don't usually get to come to these kind of things," Yuuki said sheepishly, rubbing the back of her head, before casting a look back at her father. Why had he insisted so much? He went to these things every now and then. Perhaps he just wanted her to wear a pretty dress was the reason. She follow Cagalli, before looking thoughtful. "Hmm. I only just got here, and father's ignoring me already, so... it's okay, I suppose."

(OOC: I'd say most likely not. He's only there since a) he's rich and b) he owns this mega-elite Private school for kids in the inner city. I doubt anyone knows about his pacifism for vampires, so I'd say not. She can if she wants to.)

"You're lucky," Cagalli replied, envious of the fact. Sure, she knew she had a comfortable life, but being dragged around to these events all the time was still a pain. Didn't the upper class have anything better to do than drink, make nice and ignore all the problems around them? "They're alright for a novelty, I suppose, but these things get dull quickly. Although," she lightly touched her mask, musing, "These make it a bit more interesting, I guess. It must be a headache for security, though."

Yuuki ruffled the feathers adoring the edge of her own mask, causing her eyes to case a slightly strange glare, but she quickly halted. "It's nice. I like these kind of clothes..." she indicated her current wardrobe. "And yours too. They're a pain to move around quickly in, though," she added thoughtfully. Wearing this whilst watching the academy overnight? She'd loose count of how many times she'd fall over from trying to run. She smiled a little at the thought.

"I can't stand having to wear these things," Cagalli admitted, sounding the tiniest bit sulky as she did so. "But I get dragged to things like this every week. The masks are new, though." She had to give Ashelia at least some credit in that regard for changing it up ever so slightly.

Deciding a change of subject was in order, Cagalli inquired, "Are you still in high school?" It seemed like as good a topic as any, she figured.

Yuuki told hold of the change of topic with slight eagerness. "Yup. First year at Cross Academy, part of the discipline committee - which er, is the one my father runs," she admitted. Even amongst all the richer families, it still didn't have a mass amount of pupils. She wouldn't be surprised if it was best known for the slightly insane headmaster. She blinked, before she mimed hitting herself. "Listen to me, going on," she held out her hand for Cagalli to shake. "I'm Yuuki. Yuuki Cross."
