The Christmas cheer was gone, and much of the snow with it. Now all that was left of the snow that had formerly blanketed the city was resilient patches of slush, thanks in no small part due to the torrential rains that had been pouring down since Boxing Day. It had eased off now, only a light drizzle, but there was nevertheless a more melancholy air around the streets. Christmas was over; the decorations that did remain were soggy and looked more tacky than decorative, and the city and its people was beginning to settle back into the old routine, one that would be only momentarily interrupted by the New Year celebrations.

One such person settling back into the post-Christmas routine was Dante; of course, the normal routine for him generally involved the killing of some demonic being, this time a particularly vicious (and ugly) four-legged Cerberus knockoff. Fortunately, the beast was all but felled, now sans two of its heads and moving sluggishly at best. Time had gotten away from Dante somewhat; he'd come out there at 5am, found the thing at 7am and was unaware of how the day was getting on.

With a final lunge at the beast, Dante managed to decapitate the last head, blood staining his blade, although the blood didn't splash much further, the demon turning to dust and disintegrating. Dante grinned, satisfied at his victory as he sheathed his weapon. The grin faded from his face when he heard something behind him, saw movement out of the corner of his eye. It wasn't a demon, reinforcements would've attacked by now... Ah, shit. Dante turned, already offering the excuse of, "It's, ah, not quite what it looks," to whatever bystander would've witnessed. It wasn't that he was particularly anxious of them seeing him, but the 'hey, demons exist' talk was never a fun one to give, and it was too damn early in the morning.
