Dante frowned, adjusting his trenchcoat slightly as he settled against the tree, glancing up at the screen, although he hadn't been able to stomach more than a few seconds of this crappy Christmas fluff at a time. He hadn't come here by choice, anyway; he'd been walking home after a particularly gruelling job, and ended up making the decision not to go home straight away. Going home injured was always an embarrassment, so he'd decided to just lurk around in the shadows enjoying a free film until the wounds were close to healed. (He'd patched them up beforehand.) Sadly, he'd overestimated the quality of the film, drastically.

So far, he'd managed to go a decent while without attracting too much attention, but it seemed that wasn't fated to last. Fortunately, he didn't look too bloody and he wasn't carrying a weapon, but he still looked worn out and a bit pained. Seeing someone looking at him out of the corner of his eye, he questioned in an annoyed drawl, "What do you want?" without even looking to see who it was.

Freezing weather, hyperactive children waving novelty swords and teenagers trying to tongue wrestle each other, somehow this was not the Christmas day he had envisioned. Patrol had been a waste of time, if there were still demons left in New Sanctum after his brother had strengthened the gates, they were certainly hiding well and it was beginning to get rather frustrating.

Taking the shortcut through the park had been a bad idea, he knew that the moment he had seen how packed out the park was. What kind of inconsiderate person held a public gathering on Christmas Day? Weaving through the gathering people he spotted his brother out of the corner of his eye and moved over to him, shooting him a piercing look as he sneered “Is that any way to speak to your dear big brother?”

Ah. Another example of the world conspiring against him just being able to settle around healing in peace, then. Frowning moodily at his brother, Dante crossed his arms, questioning, "What are you doing here, soaking up the Christmas spirit?"

Shifting and subconsciously pulling the trenchcoat around himself more tightly, he added, "Or, don't tell me, you're volunteering as the local fun police!"

“No,” Vergil answered flatly in response to both questions, looking rather sullen. Judging from Dante’s visable injuries he had been able to find something more entertaining than he had whilst out on patrol and that was rather annoying, to say the least. “I came here because it was a shortcut, I didn’t expect to be drowned in Christmas spirit.”

Sephiroth was many things, but a people person had never been one of them. Why he'd even come to such a godforsaken place at a godforsaken time (Sephiroth had no kind words for Christmas, nor for public venues) was a mystery, but why this godforsaken film had been allowed to be made and shown was the biggest mystery of all. Trying to tune it out and just concentrate on the (laptop) screen in front of him, Sephiroth briefly wondered if he should obey those irritating internet popups and go and buy one of those 'mp3 players' in an effort to drown out various unpleasant noises like this.

He was currently sitting alone, isolated from most of the family crowd; he'd been dragged there by Nana (but had been intending to go anyway, mainly because he was determined not to have another year of being assaulted by carollers at his apartment or assaulted by a drunken Heidegger at the Shin-Ra Christmas party), but the girl had since vanished into thin air. (It was probably for the best, as now he'd be able to get some work done.)

"Sephiroth, whyyy did you bring your work with youuu?"

Apparently not having vanished for long, Nana abruptly bounced up beside the man, plopping down cross-legged onto the picnic blanket she'd spread out earlier, folding her long peasant-skirt neatly over her legs and giving him a pouty, unimpressed look. "Sephiroth is supposed to be enjoying Christmas night, not working!" Nudge, nudge.

It was a sheer miracle that she'd managed to get him out in the first place, but Nan was all over, very proud of herself. She'd not only managed to make the man stay home all day, but gotten him to do one of their first, what she called, 'family activities'.

If only he'd put his silly computer down.

Grinning a little, the pink-haired girl wrapped her arms around one of his, resting her head against his shoulder with a content noise and waiting for him to shut off the laptop.

"Because the work needs to be done," he responded simply, and made no attempts at saving and quitting, merely continuing the (rather monotonous) work he was doing. Reviews, of all things, checking through reviews of various SOLDIER candidates and considering those who were up for promotion. Really, running a secret army was a surprisingly busy job.

He nudged her away, typing a rather decided 'PROMOTION DECLINED' into someone's file and adding in a clearly distracted tone, "Go and play with your friends."

"But it's Christmas!" Nana complained, her pout deepening into the classic 'I'll have a tantrum if you don't comply' kind of look. She just wouldn't have this! According to her teacher everyone was supposed to have a holiday for Christmas!

The thought of snatching the laptop clean off him with two vectors, and either crushing it or throwing it into a tree, briefly crossed Nana's cute but mischievous little mind. She eyed it dangerously for a few moments, before sighing and letting the idea drop away.

"Nana's friends went off to sit with their families," she replied to his last prompt, with quite a 'hint, nudge' kind of air.

Mishio had to admit, she was probably the only person older than eight that could actually enjoy this sort of film. They were sweet, in their own, simple sort of way.

"Almost makes you wish for a life like that, doesn't it," she sighed to herself, suddenly depressed. It was a silly thing to admit, really.

Sakura was also half-heartedly watching the film, though wasn't paying too much attention to it. She'd spent the last five minutes holding her legs, staring at the ground, when she hurt the girl next to her mutter something. She blinked, and looked over at her, and sighed. "It does..."

Mishio glanced over to the girl beside her and smiled somewhat sadly. "Such a shame that life doesn't often work that way."

Deciding that a more cheerful conversation was in order, she smiled again, much more warmly this time. "What brings you here?"

"Yes.. it is.." she nodded, and looked up at the film again. She blinked at her next comment, and then said.. "well, I just came here.. since I don't really like spending Christmas all by myself," she said honestly.

It's like this every time of year, Yuna mused, glancing from the movie to her book, shaking her head after a moment and sighing, flopping back on the grass and gazing up at the sky, her eyes drawn to a particularly bright star. I can't concentrate on anything. There's so much research I need to do, and training, but I can't...

She gave another sigh, closing her eyes and relaxing in the crisp night air for just a moment. This isn't right, I'm going home. Decided, she opened her eyes, sitting up and getting to her feet, collecting her belongings and turning to leave. As she tried to make her way out of the somewhat crowded area, she ended up bumping into someone, flushing red. "Ah! Sorry!"

Henrietta's face went an even deeper red that nearly matched her maroon coat as she looked up at Yuna.

"No, it's my fault, miss..." She trailed off. "Miss..."

"Yuna," the girl supplied, bowing politely to her. "I should've looked where I was going, I'm sorry..."

Kaoru stepped through the crowds with a happily smile on his face, humming merry christmas songs as he went. Looking amoungst the many faces he failed to notice anyone he had seen before, let alone spoken to. The smell of hot chocolate filled his nose and he took in a deep breath. The scent of hot chocolate on christmas eve! Ah, what joy! He closed his eyes to savor the smell.

Suddenly, a poking sensation in his right shoulder startled him from his daydream land of Hot Chocolate and him..

"What is it?" He asked, turning around to face whomever it was.

Hikaru had originally planned to go someplace else for the night (well, actually, he'd planned to stay at home and play all the games his mother had bought for him for Christmas) but eventually decided to go to the place his brother had mentioned. On his travels, he spotted him: looking lost in a little world of his own. Casually sildling over, to make sure he wouldn't spot him, he poked him in the shoulder. No response. Another poke. No response. A more, slightly harder poke. And finally, a response.

"You forgot the sensation of your own brother poking you?" he asked, looking slightly upset. However, he slightly cheered up immediately, and then asked, "what is it that you caused you to stand and stare into space for five minutes, hmm?"

Kaoru blinked in suprise.

"Hikaru! I Thought you were staying home!" Kaoru gave his brother a huge bright smile, lighting up his face. "And... I was just thinking. The hot chocolate is a catalyst for nice thoughts." he chuckled.

"I planned too," he said, placing a hand on his waist, generally watching the crowds of people who were suffering mixed expressions. "It's boring at home. I changed my mind when you left," he said, looking back at him.

"Hot chocolate?" he questioned. "I swear, you like more commoner stuff by the day, don't you?"
