Notes: Comment~! Because Misha cheering Kairi up is the cutest thing in the world. XD (And if you're curious, yes, the legend of the Keyblade is a popular bedtime story up in Heaven. F'reals.)
As the warm hues of sunset began to emerge, Kairi sighed, slid a few centimeters down the bench she’d been sitting on, and stared up at the sky dejectedly. It seemed that ever since the blackout, she hadn’t been quite the same. But really, how could she be? The last straggling demons that had been tracking her and the Keyblade previously had seemed to finally disappear, but she had no idea when they could come back. She was even thinking of taking Dante up on his offer now, as awkward as it would be.
Kairi had decided earlier that day that she’d come to the park after school, in the hopes of sorting out her muddled thoughts. She couldn’t say that she’d made much progress just yet, and as depressed as she was, she doubted anything would get home. This would be so much easier if Riku and Sora were here.
Shaking her head, she checked her watch absently. Another sigh. Almost curfew time, huh? I guess I should go soon...
She just hoped that nothing would follow her home today.
Nearby, a certain pink-haired angel loitered around the park absently, looking as though she was thoughtful as she gazed up the slide. As soon as she heard Kairi’s sighs, however, she immediately turned her attention towards the melancholy girl and called out to her. “Hey, aren’tcha dat girl from schoolies, su?”
“Huh?” Blinking, Kairi glanced at the girl. The question fully registering in her rather distracted mind, she answered with a nod, “Oh, right. I’m Kairi. And you’re... Um... Misha?” She thought that was the girl’s name, anyway. Kairi had seen her around the school a few times.
“Yep! Name’s Misha, su!” the pink-haired girl suddenly exclaimed, nodding fervently and grinning.
“So, um...” She paused, wondering how to phrase her next question. “...Why are ya so saddy-wad, su?”
Kairi hesitated. How many people did she really want to know about this, let alone a bouncy, pink-haired girl she barely knew?
Deciding that Misha probably meant well, she gave in. “...You know about the demons, right?” she ventured. Misha nodded.
“Well, they...” Kairi paused and folded her hands in her lap awkwardly, wondering how best to explain her current predicament. “Okay, during the blackout, a few of them cornered me and something really weird happened, and I got... This.”
Extending her hand, Kairi concentrated briefly and a bright light appeared where it had previously been, revealing Amarante upon fading. Gripping the hilt and looking it over, the same way she had so many times over the past days, she went on, “They’ve been following me ever since. It’s like they want to get rid of it, and I guess that means they want to get rid of me, too.”
Willing the Keyblade to disappear again, Kairi laughed weakly. “This is really silly, isn’t it? You probably don’t know a thing about how to help me with it.” Stretching momentarily, she looked down at her hands. “I’m really sorry about suddenly dropping all of this on you. I just don’t feel like I have anyone I can talk to about it... Something like that.”
Misha’s expression faded into something more sympathetic as she watched Amarante appear and then disappear. She walked over to Kairi tentatively and placed a hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner.
“It’ll be okies, su,” she said, smiling. “I don’t know much about it, but it’s pwobably got somethin’ ta do with a legend of da Keyblade. Like it can...um... Lock and unlock stuff,” she finished, somewhat lamely. “But it’s not just for doors an’ stuff.”
At this, Kairi seemed to brighten instantly. “Really?” she beamed, marveling at her luck. Her smile fading somewhat as Misha’s words further dawned on her, she said softly, “Not just for doors... But what else...?”
Shaking her head and deciding to figure it out later, she smiled at the girl again, pure gratitude showing on her features. “But, um, thank you so much, you have no idea how much that means to me.” More to herself than anything, she added thoughtfully, “I wonder if anyone else knows anything about it?”
Misha smiled and laughed somewhat half-heartedly at Kairi’s gratitude, and said, “It’s no big deal, su. They used ta tell stories of th’ Keyblade where I’m fromy-wome.”
Kairi had to wonder just where Misha was from that they would know that so much about the Keyblade that its stories would be told casually, but she resigned herself to not bothering the girl too much about the issue.
“It’s been a good day,” she nodded cheerfully, all woes forgotten. She had certainly made more progress than she ever could have imagined. Misha giggled.
“It’s so nice ta cheer someone up, su,” she said, gazing at the sky and grinning. “I usually mess things up even more, but dis time, I actually did somethin’ right. Teehee.”
Kairi grinned. She’d have to hang around with this Misha a bit more in the future.
Catching sight of her watch once again, her eyes widened slightly at the time. “Oh, um, I should be getting home,” she winced. “Sorry... You too, probably.”
“Aah, yeppers. See ya, Kairi,” Misha said, smiling. “Um, the train’s probably not gonna be in service wight now, so if ya don’t mind...”
And then, in a rather spectacular display of sparkles, Misha’s wings grew back to full size. She spun around on heel and took off, soaring into the air, and started to fly away.
Kairi was just about to give a final farewell when Misha extended what appeared to be wings, turned around, and took off. Stunned, Kairi paused openmouthed with her hand in the position of what would have been a wave if she hadn’t faltered.
She supposed there really were things stranger than what she was going through.
