Where: Random Seedy Train Station
When: April 20th, 9:20pm
Who: Fou-Lu (
soulrenddragon) and Yuna (
wonderwing)
Summary: Fou-Lu wanders the city, specifically a train station, and has a loud encounter with a metal detector. Yuna just seems to attract supernatural incidents, although at least she takes it in stride.
Notes: Comment. Because you can.
Waking up from what was supposed to have been his 'eternal sleep' (although he had never believed it would be eternal and had predicted his return), Fou-Lu realised that he was way over his head as he gazed around, feeling rather confused and anxious as he was out of his depth.
The ground trembled beneath his feet as a large train tore through the station, moving at an incredible speed and attracting his attention instantly. T'was that a Dragon? Focusing, he gazed at the train carriages as they tore past the station, one after another. No ... I cans't sense the power of a dragon ... or even a soul. Wouldst it be some new kind of monster?
Dismissing his thoughts for a moment, as he did not need to be concerned (he was a god, regardless of what this creature was, he would be able to defeat it with ease) he padded through the peculiar archway he had seen others walk through. The moment the siren sounded, alerting the guard that he was carrying some kind of metal object he had reacted, summoning his sword into his hand and slicing the metal detector in half, his white hair falling over his eyes.
"That noise, t'was unbearable." He commented calmly, walking ahead again until he felt the guard's firm grip on his shoulder "Hm?"
The guard pulled him backwards, eyes narrowing. He'd heard that things were getting more and more violent, but this was ridiculous. (Now he was thankful that he had a gun on him.) Holding the gun to Fou-Lu and moving back slightly, he snapped, "Drop the weapon! Hands where I can see them!"
Closing his eyes calmly and looking rather sure of himself, Fou-Lu raised both his hands, the sword disappearing with a soft white glow as he offered "Wouldst thou fight a god?"
The guard's eyes widened at that and he very nearly discharged his firearm in sheer surprise. "Y-you're one of them, ain't you?! One of them freaks..." Shaking his head, he moved forwards, pulling out the handcuffs. "You're under arrest until the police get here!"
"Is that so?" Fou-Lu questioned, sounding rather amused despite the situation he was in as a soft white aura surrounded his hand. Opening his eyes, he gazed directly at the guard before his power increased. "Thou believest thou can do such a thing?"
The guard staggered backwards, looking rather afraid despite himself. "Stop that right now or I’ll shoot!" his voice was somewhere between a snarl and a yelp.
"If thou believest thou can, then I wouldst deserve to die," Fou-Lu responded simply as the glow that surrounded his bandaged hand brightened. Without warning, a bright white beam abruptly shot down, creating a circular hole in the ceiling and killing the man instantly, leaving a rather large crater. A loud roar came from overhead as the dragon that had been circling the building peered through the hole for a moment before disappearing as Fou-Lu lowered his hand to his side again.
Over the years, Yuna Meyari had developed a rather unfortunate habit of showing up everywhere at the worst possible time. Whether it was missing trains or being just on time for being splashed by a rain puddle, she seemed to have a talent at it, and now was no exception. It was a fairly isolated station, so there was no-one there aside from her, Fou-Lu and... the crater. ...what the...? After all, it wasn't every day you walked into a train station to find a strange-looking man standing over a smoking crater in the ground. Maybe something crashed into the building, or...?
Thankfully, Yuna had at least missed seeing the fate that had befallen the unlucky security guard. Walking forwards slowly and gazing at Fou-Lu, she questioned, "Um... what happened here...?"
Glancing at her as he heard her approach from behind, the First Emperor casually brushed his hair out of his eyes, drawing attention to the small red horns poking through his hairline. Tis as I thought. It is not the nature of mortals to change their ways.
Shaking his head after a moment and brushing his hair out of his eyes again, he offered calmly, "Gods have the power to grant life and to taketh it away when a mortal abuses the life."
"What do you mean...?" Yuna tilted her head to the side, not quite following Fou-Lu's logic. Walking closer somewhat hesitantly, clutching her schoolbag tightly (although, unbeknownst to Fou-Lu, her guns were also inside the bag). Peering over into the crater, she repeated, "What happened...?" Glancing at Fou-Lu, she added, "Were you here...?"
"Nothing," Fou-Lu responded after a moment, deciding that it wasn't important for him to discuss it further, instead he strode onto the platform, glancing around and looking rather confused, although he did not want to admit that he had no idea what to do "What be ye doing in this place?"
"9:31 train," Yuna answered, her tone somewhat distracted as she climbed into the crater slowly, being careful not to slip. It was pretty small, but it looked like something had just... struck it. In the early days of the city, sometimes chunks fell from the top of the dome... it only happened a few times, but maybe...? The summoner glanced up warily. "...should we call the police or someone...?"
"Leave it be," Fou-Lu responded calmly before he glanced at her again "...train?" He made no attempts to mask the confusion in his voice "...’twas that creature that rumbled by earlier one of these ... trains?"
Yuna blinked, looking at Fou-Lu rather curiously. He didn't know...? "I’m not sure," Yuna shook her head. "Um, what did it look like...?"
"It was long," Fou-Lu offered, realising that this girl would probably be able to help him "And loud, it appeared over there." He offered, motioning to the tracks.
Yuna climbed back out of the crater, nodding. "The trains around here do look different from some of the newer trains," she mused, deciding that must have been what he meant. "Where are you going...?"
Examining the paper he had been given again, Fou-Lu offered after a moment "Wouldst thou know of how to get to Main Street?"
Yuna noted that virtually every suburb in the entirety of New Sanctum had a 'Main Street'. "Um, let me see the address..."
Holding out the piece of paper, Fou-Lu waited for Yuna to take it. She did not seem like the type of person who would try to kill him, so he kept his powers concealed for the time being. Yuna took the paper, reading it, somewhat surprised at its contents. "Dost thou knowest where I must go?" Fou-Lu questioned thoughtfully, moving over to look over her shoulder, his silvery hair falling over his face again.
Yuna nodded, but she did glance at him curiously, questioning, "Why do you want to go there...?"
"Mine empire has fallen onto another's shoulders, now I want it back." Fou-Lu explained calmly before brushing his hair out of his eyes "Thou dost not need to concern yourself."
As well as ending up in the worst possible situations, Yuna also seemed to have a habit for running into the strangest people. "I’m not sure if you'll be able to get in here unless you have clearance," Yuna explained, shaking her head. "It's in the restricted zone, you need a special ID card."
Fou-Lu smiled to himself, looking rather smug and confident "Thou dost not need to worry, I have a feeling that thy modern technology will not get in the way."
Yuna took a moment to decode the old-fashioned speak, glancing at him with mild concern. "Why would you want to go in there, though...? It's dangerous to try and break into places like that..."
"It is necessary. Mine resurrection ‘twas ignored, I wouldst want to know why. I wouldst also wish to see the man whom has taken my place, the false god." Fou-Lu explained before he turned away from her "How wouldst I get there?"
"Resurrection?" Yuna blinked, moving so that she was in his vision range. Exactly what had she managed to get herself into...? "Um... what do you mean...?"
"Tis not of import," Fou-Lu answered calmly as he walked onto the platform, standing right on the edge and gazing at tracks below before moving to step off.
Yuna's eyes widened and she quickly moved forwards, pulling him back. "Careful!" she shook her head. "You could get hit, trains come through this station without stopping."
"This is strange," Fou-Lu admitted, although he did move away from the edge "So, what be thy purpose for these 'trains'?"
Deciding to not even try and figure out how he could live in New Sanctum and not know what trains were, Yuna explained, "They get you to places quickly. There's a subway network underneath the city, so that it doesn't take long to travel even from one side to another."
"So, they art a form of transportation?" Fou-Lu questioned "Interesting..."
"...where are you from?" Yuna questioned, feeling rather confused.
"Judging from what I have seen, thou wouldst not know of where I was born. T'would be before your time." Fou-Lu explained calmly, feeling as though he could trust her.
Yuna nodded, taking this all in rather calmly. (One did tend to take things like this well when one was dating someone who was practically immortal.) "Are you a demon?" she questioned, asking it as though she were asking whether he'd eaten lunch or not.
Fou-Lu shook his head "No, thy knowest about such creatures?" He questioned after a moment, sounding rather surprised "Not bad, for one such as thee."
"It's complicated," Yuna assured him, gazing at him. "...you're from another time, though."
"Thou art correct," Fou-Lu answered calmly before deciding to elaborate, sounding rather smug "I art a god."
Yuna blinked. Despite how absurd the statement would sound to most, the sentiments seemed to be commonplace in Yuna's world. "Oh, um..." she nodded graciously, wondering exactly how it would be best to ask exactly what a god was doing in the mortal world. "...I didn't realise that gods were a separate race again," she eventually confessed sheepishly.
Fou-Lu laughed to himself for a moment before offering calmly "The dragons be thy gods. I am a dragon, one of the Endless."
Dragons were gods...? Mr Kaiba would be happy to hear that. "It's nice to meet you," she smiled sheepishly, bowing politely. (How was one meant to conduct one's self around a god, anyway?)
"Thou dost not seem surprised," Fou-Lu offered, going off what he had observed, either she had encountered someone like him before or she was just good at handling peculiar information "Fou-Lu, be mine name.2
"I’m Yuna," she introduced herself, gazing at him thoughtfully and explaining, "I’m, um... I guess I’m sort of a demon hunter. Or... a secretary for a demon hunter..." she smiled sheepishly, blushing slightly.
"Ah, that t'would explain your lack of reaction," Fou-Lu answered, looking rather amused, although he abruptly glanced to his left, almost looking alarmed (although he would not admit that) as a train pulled into the station "...tis going to take some getting used to."
"That's my train," Yuna mused, glancing at Fou-Lu. "Um... if you come with me, I can show you that place, but... I really wouldn't recommend going there. It's a restricted area, the government would..."
"It is appreciated," Fou-Lu responded, inclining his head in a polite bow before he followed Yuna onto the train, gazing around. It was certainly not as impressive inside as it looked outside.
The train was mostly empty, with a man who looked to be in a dazed state (probably drugged on something, given his eyes) slumped in the back of the carriage and a young couple busily making out in a very noisy manner. Yuna averted her eyes before their session became X-rated, walking over to a window seat and sitting down. "Um... Mr Fou-Lu, how come you're here?"
"What dost thou mean?" Fou-Lu questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"...well, um... how come you're in the mortal world?" Yuna asked quietly, tilting her head to the side. Well, there was a demon world (and, by the sounds of it, there was a heaven too), so there must be a dragon god world, right?
"I united the Western continent a very long time ago," Fou-Lu answered, choosing his words carefully, after all, he did not want to alarm her "I became the First Emperor and fought alongside my army in the great war, mine fate ‘twas sealed when I was killed in combat, but I knew I wouldst' return," pausing, he gave Yuna time to take all this in before adding "I only recently awoke again."
...well, he didn't look like a creepy brain-eating zombie. "Western continent...?" Yuna questioned, looking rather confused. Oh, in the Old World... um, does he mean America...? "...do you... know about New Sanctum?"
"I know the mortals hath ruined this world with their fighting," Fou-Lu answered, not sounding too impressed with that, in fact he almost sounded annoyed.
"...so everyone lives in an enclosed city," Yuna nodded. "A lot of people don't really know that much about the Old World. We're taught a bit in school, but..."
Fou-Lu seemed to catch on to the underlying topic "...dost that mean, the mortals hath forgotten me?" Although he would never admit it, his ego had taken a huge hit from that. Whilst he had never placed much importance on being remembered when he had originally been alive (as he had been adored and the thought that he would be forgotten had not entered his mind) now, it was a cold hard dose of reality that he certainly did not like.
Yuna looked away, feeling rather guilty, but she assured herself that it was better that she told him rather than he find out by himself. "...the world's a different place," she said softly. "...the Western continent, it might not even exist any more. Everyone who was alive at those times is gone." With a few minor exceptions such as her housemates. "Things... have changed a lot."
Fou-Lu closed his eyes "...I had not expected to hath been forgotten," he admitted before he gazed at Yuna again "The truth doth hurt."
Yuna placed her hand on his shoulder reassuringly, although she was somewhat hesitant. "The world tends to forget really important people," she offered softly. "...but, um, the good things that you did, it doesn't make them any less important."
Smiling to himself after a moment, Fou-Lu answered "It dost not change anything. Tis not of import, there be more pressing matters to attend to, in regards to the new leader."
"New leader?" Yuna blinked, pulling away lightly and looking quite mystified. "Oh, um, the president...?" He'd been the leader for all of Yuna's lifetime, so she'd just never quite thought of him as 'new'.
"From what I hath witnessed, thy emperor doth not understand the import of respect." Fou-Lu responded thoughtfully.
"You shouldn't speak ill of the government," Yuna offered softly, shaking her head. "You can get in serious trouble for it."
I must find mine other half, to restore myself to my former strength and complete mine plans. Glancing back at Yuna after a moment, he offered calmly "I am not afraid."
Yuna looked rather concerned. "Um, Mr Fou-Lu, the government can be really troublesome... it's better to just avoid them."
"I art a god," Fou-Lu responded "Thine government t'would not oppose a god."
"They probably would," Yuna mumbled to herself, imagining the chaos that would no doubt unfold.
"Yuna, dost thou understand the power of a dragon?" Fou-Lu questioned "The Endless can grant life with one hand and taketh it away with the other."
"I don't know much about the powers of the Endless," Yuna confessed, gazing at him. "...but there's been a lot of demonic activity in the city lately, and it's made the government treat the people much worse."
"Thou art very helpful." Fou-Lu offered after a moment.
Yuna smiled slightly. "Thanks." Brushing a few strands of hair from her eyes, she questioned, "Um, are you with anyone, Mr Fou-Lu...?"
"T'what dost thou mean?" Fou-Lu questioned before adding thoughtfully "I hath mine guardian, Won-Qu if that is t'what thou means, but no one else."
Yuna gazed at him, feeling rather sympathetic. Being stuck in a foreign world with hardly anyone around you must be rather daunting, even if you were a god. "Are you staying with Mr Won-Qu?"
Fou-Lu laughed softly "No, Won-Qu remains at mine tomb, guarding it until mine return."
"Oh..." Guarding a tomb sounded like a rather boring task, but if Mr Won-Qu wanted to do it... "Where are you staying...?"
"Won-Qu doth not have a form like thou and those around three." Fou-Lu explained.
Yuna blushed slightly. So Mr Won-Qu was a demon (or something like a demon)? "Oh..." she smiled sheepishly. "I’m sorry, I just assumed..."
"Tis not of import," Fou-Lu answered, dismissing it calmly "Won-Qu wouldst not be offended by the mistake."
"So are you going to find Mr Won-Qu?" Yuna questioned.
"Not immediately," Fou-Lu answered truthfully "Won-Qu is content to carry out his task, eventually he shalt join me."
"You don't mind being alone here...?" Yuna asked, glancing around. Being alone in the city, having nowhere to turn... it seemed like an unimaginably scary thought. Even when she'd been without her parents, she'd at least had her inheritance to support her. "Where are you staying...?"
"Staying?" Fou-Lu questioned, he had not really given much thought to where he would stay, more focused on the task at hand to consider rest although, now that he thought about it, he was still weak, he barely had even a quarter of his true power and even dealing with one human had tired him out "...I hath not given it thought." He admitted.
Yuna gazed at him thoughtfully, eventually offering, "Um... you could stay at my house, if you'd like?" It was kind of embarrassing to offer something like that to someone she'd only just met, but she sort of knew Mr Fou-Lu, and he was evidently a god. Besides, she wasn't essentially asking him to stay with her; she'd been living at Devil May Cry for so long that it was practically home. (Although she did really need to ask Dante if they could get a spare room built, it was just getting impractical.) "I’m not using it, so, um, you'd have it to yourself."
"Thou wouldst do that for me?" Fou-Lu questioned before inclining his head "Thank you."
"It's no problem," Yuna assured him, shaking her head. "I’m staying with some friends, so it's just going to waste anyway... I’ll take you there."
"Thou art a good person," Fou-Lu responded "It hath been some time since I hath encountered a mortal that is not corrupted in some manner."
Yuna blushed at that. "It's really nothing, honestly." Twisting her hair around her fingertips, she added thoughtfully, "There are a lot of good people in the world... more good people than bad people. It's just that the bad people stand out more, I think."
Gazing out of the window, Fou-Lu looked rather thoughtful "How long hath this artificial world existed?"
"About eighty years," Yuna responded thoughtfully. "...the city was developed and put into use, but it wasn't until about a decade after that when people had to live in here."
"So it was expected that the mortals would ruin their own world?" Fou-Lu questioned, feeling somewhat annoyed that someone had attempted to play god. No doubt building the dome had quickened the destruction of the real world.
Yuna shook her head. "The world's governments could see that things were getting worse and worse, so cities like this one were developed for when the time came... at the same time, though, they were still fighting wars. Eventually, things just got too bad..."
"Still?" Fou-Lu questioned, sounding rather surprised. He was amazed that the war had gone on for so long. He had started the war years ago with a purpose, independence for the Western Empire "That doth surprise me." He admitted.
Yuna blinked, realising that he'd gotten the wrong impression. "It wasn't all the same war," she explained. "Lots of different countries fought with one another, in lots of different wars. Some wars were just, some weren't, but... eventually, the planet had just had enough."
"So, mortals hath spent their lives fighting one another," shaking his head, Fou-Lu added "I should not attempt to understand the workings of a mortal mind, understanding them would take more than a lifetime."
"Most mortals don't really even understand each other," Yuna mused thoughtfully, shaking her head. "...we're all very different from one another, I guess."
"Thou speaketh as though thou art more than a mortal," Fou-Lu responded, gazing at her with his pure green eyes, tucking some white hair behind his pointy ear.
"Me?" Yuna questioned, taking a moment to realise what he meant. "No, no, it's just... I have a few friends who are. More than mortal, I mean," she smiled. "So I’m used to talking about these kinds of things with them, that's all."
Fou-Lu continued to gaze at her for a moment before offering calmly as he ran his bandaged fingers along Yuna's cheek gently, his aura flickering around him for a brief moment "Thou doth have some special gifts of your own, I can sense thy power."
Yuna blushed slightly, but she knew that Fou-Lu's actions weren't at all suggestive (it just didn't seem like him). "I do have a little power," she admitted rather shyly. "...but I’m still learning how to use it."
"Thou hath the potential to become very strong," Fou-Lu offered before removing his hand gently "Perhaps even an Endless."
"...people can become Endless?" Yuna questioned, unable to help herself, the surprise showing. She'd assumed that the Endless were a race of gods (like demons), but becoming one...? ...this was all very complicated.
"Some Endless have existed from the beginning, some ascend to becoming Endless, others are made or born, it doth depend on the person's heart. I was born an Endless. I hath been alive for a very long time and now I am awake once again, I shalt live even longer, watching over the mortals as it should be."
"...it sounds complicated," Yuna murmured thoughtfully. Maybe she'd ask Vergil if he'd heard of Endless later. (If he couldn't kill it, Dante probably didn't want to know about it, and she hadn't seen Mr Sparda around much lately...) "So you're going to watch over the mortals in here?" she questioned thoughtfully."...there's a lot happening in this city. It won't just be mortals..."
Fou-Lu smiled to himself "I art a god, I can handle it."
"The city's had a few demonic troubles," Yuna smiled sheepishly as the train pulled into their station. Standing and walking towards the door, beckoning for him to follow, she added quietly, "But it's not been as bad lately, maybe all of that's over..."
Following her, Fou-Lu offered "Mine concern is not with demons."
"Do Endless and demons sort of... keep out of each other's way?" Yuna questioned curiously.
"Mostly, yes," Fou-Lu answered "Demons are not of import to an Endless, unless they begin to interfere with the mortals."
"I guess that's for the best," Yuna mused quietly. "...demons attack the city sometimes, but... the most powerful attacks seem to be localised." She decided not to mention that said attacks were localised on her social circle. "They hopefully won't bother you at all..."
"It may require interference if they become so bold as to come to the surface on a regular basis." Fou-Lu mused.
"You mean they didn't used to?" Yuna blinked, not meaning for it to come out as matter-of-factly as it did; she was genuinely surprised. "It's mainly in more dangerous areas, though, my place is fine." As long as I’m not in it.
Shaking his head, Fou-Lu offered "Demons were once content to remain in their own world, back when the light and dark were still on speaking terms."
"That must've been a very long time ago," Yuna murmured. She'd just assumed that things had been this way for as long as there had been separate worlds. "Things are different now... demons are attacking the mortal world, but the two worlds are in a bit of a stalemate. The gateways are starting to come open, but... we're holding them off okay."
"Then perhaps it is time for the Endless to intervene. So much hath happened during my slumber." Fou-Lu mused.
Yuna smiled weakly. "I’ll help in explaining, um, anything I can."
"Thank you," Fou-Lu answered before conceding "But for now, I wouldst be wise to rest. Mine strength hath not yet returned to me."
"There's plenty of guests rooms at my place," Yuna offered as they rounded the corner of her block. Gesturing to the gateway to the large manor, she added, "I’ll just stay for a few hours, I need to pick some things up."
"It is appreciated." Fou-Lu responded as he strode up to the front door, admiring the grand building. Whilst it was nothing compered to the interior of his tomb alone, the gesture was enough.
Yuna trailed after him, rummaging around in her schoolbag and eventually finding her keys. Unlocking the front door, she offered a smile. "Make yourself at home."
"Thank you, I shall." Fou-Lu responded before he disappeared, upstairs, assuming that was where the bedrooms would be. Finding a room that he deemed suitable, he sat on the bed and began to unwrap the bandages he had so time-consumingly wrapped around his hands and each individual finger, exposing his pale hands before doing the same to the bandages wrapped around his shoes, which had become rather filthy. Casting off his gloves as an afterthought, he swept his hair out of his eyes and removed the layers of his top, setting the soft material aside before he realised he had been followed.
Yuna blushed, stumbling backwards. It seemed that even living with Dante didn't steel her against seeing shirtless men, as her face was burning red. "I-I’m sorry!" she yelped, looking very embarrassed. "Um, are you okay...?"
Fou-Lu gazed at her, looking rather calm "Tis nothing that could be helped," he answered before adding "I will be needing some more bandages, for my hands at least."
"I’ve got lots of bandages," Yuna assured him, turning away quickly, her face burning red. "They're all in the bathroom cabinet."
"Thank you." Fou-Lu responded, before he lay on the bed, realising that he was more exhausted than he had originally thought "Thou art a kind woman."
Yuna blushed at the comment, bringing him the bandages and responding, "It's really nothing." Smiling, she offered the bandages, as well as a piece of paper with her cellphone number scrawled on it.
"T'what is this?" Fou-Lu questioned, gazing at the phone number as he put the roll of bandages to one side, seeing no point in re-bandaging his hands when he would be sleeping.
"It's my cellphone number," Yuna explained, holding her cellphone for emphasis. "If you need any help with anything, just call me and I’ll come over," she smiled sheepishly. "I’m staying across time, but it doesn't take that long."
"Ah," Fou-Lu responded, he had already investigated the 'telephone' during his travels through the city and had learned how to use one ... mostly "Thank you, thou shalt be rewarded for your kindness in the afterlife." He offered, rubbing his exposed hands absently before taking the red sash that had been wrapped around his waist several times, using it to loosely tie back his hair so it was not in the way, exposing the horns even more.
Yuna was about to ask a few questions about the afterlife, although she eventually decided against it, merely smiling and nodding to his comment. "Thank you. Just call that number any time if you need anything," she smiled. "I’ll come by again later today."
"I shall," Fou-Lu answered before closing his eyes again, relaxing on the bed once more, looking much more vulnerable now than he had before, his pale hands resting at his side "Thou hath questions thou wish to ask." He commented knowingly.
"It's nothing," Yuna shook her head, looking thoughtful. "I was going to ask about the afterlife, but..." she paused. "...maybe it's the kind of thing that it's better not for mortals to know about." She didn't much like discussion of her inevitable death, not because the topic frightened her, but because it seemed to come up so often. Although she was obviously going to die someday, she'd rather it go undiscussed.
Fou-Lu shook his head "Tis not information I can give. Mortals wouldst not understand, thou can only knowest about the afterlife when it is thy time to pass on to it."
"That's what I thought," Yuna mused. "...anyway, I won't keep you any longer," she smiled. "Please get some rest, Mr Fou-Lu. The fridge is fully stocked, and, um, there's cable TV downstairs."
"Thank you, I shall," Fou-Lu answered before he relaxed on the bed again, falling asleep quite quickly, stray strands of hair falling over his face despite his best efforts to keep his hair back.
Yuna gazed at him for a moment before turning away, walking downstairs. So she was lending her house to a newly-resurrected god now, while she stayed with her half-demon boyfriend and practiced summoning aeons to fight the Darkness itself with?
...well, at least she couldn't complain of boredom.
